Be it known that I, WILLIAM N. OEHM, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Michigan City, county of Laporte, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draft-Arms, of which the following is a specification, and which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
The invention relates to draft arms, and has for its object the production of a draft arm which shall be stronger for the amount of metal utilized than draft arms now in use. A further object of the invention is the provision of draft arms which will allow of a more secure attachment to the center sills than has been heretofore obtained.

Figure 1 is a side view of the draft arm showing the bolster and end sill in section;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a pair of draft arms and a portion of the bolster, with parts broken laway to show the draft arm in section;
Figs. 3 and 4 are sections on lines 3 3 and 4 4, respectively, of\F ig. 1.
In the drawings 10 is used to 'designate the wrought draft arm as a whole, which draft arm comprises a web 11 and ianges 12. The center sills of the car preferably take the form of channel beams 13, having webs 14 and anges 15. The bolster is indicated at 16, and the lower bolster'plate at 17. The opemng for the king pin is seen at 18, resulting from semi-cylindrical'depressions in the mating lfiller blocks 19. y
I have lllustrated my draft arms as nesting with the channels which constitute the center sills of the car, and as having the webs of said sills riveted to the draft arms, as shown at 20. The end sill of the car is indicated at 21, and draft and buffng lugs at 22, 23.
It will be observed from the disclosure of Fig. 2 and a comparison of Figs. 3 and 4, that the metal of the web of the channel, comprising the draft arm, is thicker at its point of attachment to the center sills than it is toward the end.
