To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, KATsUsABURo MA- MIYA, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at Ohito, Tanaka-mura, Tagatagun, Shizuoka-ken, Japan, have invented new and useful Improvements in an Anchoring Device for Safes, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an anchoring device for safes and is more particularly intended to provide a device to prevent the removal of a safe by any unauthorized person, for use in connection with safes of the portable type, wherein it often occurs that a thief being unable to open the combination or key lock, transports it away to be subsequently opened at convenience.

My invention aims to provide a device whereby the removal of the safe in its entirety may be prevented by anchoring the same to an immovable object, such as a concrete wall, heavy piece of furniture, etc.

I have illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a safe, partly in section, showing my device attached thereto.

In the drawings it will be seen that 1 designates the safe proper, in the rear face of which two openings 1' and 1 are provided.

A casing 2 housing a slidable member 3 of hollow construction is provided with an opening 6.

Integral with the slidable member 3 are latches 4 and a knob 5 which may besecured in any convenient manner to the member 3, projects through the opening 6 in the casing 2.

A spring 7 is interposed between the outer end of the slidable member 3 and the inner face of the casing 2 in such a manner as to press the slidable member 3 toward the opposite end of the cas ng.

Embedded in a wall or secured to some heavy object by means of a chain 9, are the members 8 provided with notches 10 and an inclined end face 11, the members 8 being so spaced, granted that they are embedded in a wall, as to aline with the openings 1 and l in the safe when the same is brought adjacent to them.

In operation it will now be seen that all had to Fig. 3, that the lugs that is necessary to anchor the safe securely to some permanent object is to back the same so that the members 8 aline with the openings 1 and 1" and to firmly press the upper faces 11 of the members 8 into said openings. It will now be noted, reference being of the inclined face 11, be forced rearwardly thus carrying with them the slidable member 3 against the action of the spring 7 until the members l reach the position shown in Fig. 3 whereupon, due to the action of the 4 will, by virtue.

When it is desired to remove the safe, the only possible means of gaining this means, is to open the safe door and to press the knobs 5 rearwardly against the action of the springs 7 so as to disengage the members a from the notches l0 permitting of the withdrawal of the members 8 from the openings 1 and'l". Also it will be noted that to facilitate the entry of the ends of the members 8 it might be advisable to hold the slidable member 3 back against the action of the spring 7 by means of the knob 5 until the members 8 have become positioned .in

the openings 1 and '1", whereupon the slidable member 3 may be permitted to assume its normal position, thus effectively preventing the removal of the'safe from the object to which it is anchored.

Having described my invention, what I claim is z- Y A safe provided with a pair of openings in its rear wall, a casing secured to the in-' ner face of said rear wall and covering said openings, a slidable rod within such casing, such slidable rod being provided with a pair of plates adapted to move across the face of the openings, a spring interposed between one end of the rod and the opposing end of the casing for normally holding the rod in such a position that the plates tend to cover the openings, and a pair of anchoring members secured to some immovable object, such anchoring members comprising rods formed with notches adapted to be engaged by such plates, whereby, when the ends of such rod are projected within the openings formed in the safe, the plates will firmly engagesuch notches and prevent, by virtue of the spring, the withdrawal thereof by any exterior influence.
