FLASH-LIGHT HOLDER.

for its object to provide an. exceedingly simple and effective device of this description upon which a flash light may be readily mounted and secured, the device being capable of attachment to a suitable support for holding the flash light in position.

A further object of my invention is to provide for the adjustment of the flash light when mounted upon the device at any angle.

A still further object of my invention is to provide spring actuated clamping means so constructed that the device may be attached to an arm of a person desiring to use the light or any shape post round, square or triangular in cross section.

With these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.

In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, in which Figure 1, is a side elevation of my improved holder showing a flash light mounted thereon.

In carryingout my invention as here embodied 1 represents a base plate from which projects upward a circular housing 2 upon which latter is threaded the cap 3.

gagement with the latch pin 12. By this arrangement a flash light such as indicated by the numeral 13 may be placed upon the holder 6 and securely clamped in place by drawing the springs 7 over the top of the same and engaging the clamp bar with the latch hook 12.

In order that the holder 6 may accommodate various forms of flash lights I prefer that it be curved lengthwise as shown in Fig. 1 so that the body of the flash light will bear upon the ends of the holder when clamped in place thus giving a firm grip.

The head 4 is set within the housing 2 and is inclosed by the cap 3, leather-or similar washers 14 being interposed between the head and the walls of the housing and cap so that when the cap is screwed down sufficient presure is brought to bear upon the head to hold it in any desired position. This arrangement permits the turning of the head Within the housing or the adjustment thereof in various positions to bring the flash light supported upon the holder in the proper position to shed light upon the point desired.

15 representstwo wire clamps each of which is so bent as to pass through the ears 16 formed upon the base plate 1 and extend upward to form the stop extensions 17, said extensions being intended to provide handles or means for opening the wire clamps. The lower portion of the wire clamps are corrugated as indicated at 17' or otherwise roughened, and these clamps are in the form of circular loops as shown in Fig. 1, said hooks being curved as shown in Fig. 2 so as to readily surround and embrace an object such as a post thereby providing for the supporting of the'flash light in a fixed position. This arrangement of clamps also provides for attaching the device" to the arm of a person desiring to use the light so as to utilize the light without interfering with the use of the hands.

18 represents eyes formed by the proper bending of the wire and to all these eyes is attached one end of one of the springs 19 the opposite ends thereof being attached to the underside of the base plate 1 as indicated at 20 and these springs serve to draw the clamps toward each other and give them a firm grip upon the object to which they may be attached.

The upper ends of the wires of the clamps 15 may be secured together by the shields 21 by the latter being soldered, brazed or otherwise secured to this.

lleretofore in practice the holding and carrying of a flash light often inconveniences a person carrying the same since by monopolizing one hand limits the persons actions, but by the use of my improvement this disadvantage is entirely overcome when the flash light may be attached to one arm leaving both the hands free; and it also has been heretofore diflicult to direct the rays of a flash light upon a given object or location and have tlnn rays remain steady, but

by the use of my improvement the flash light may be attached to a post or any projecting object and firmly held by permitting the rays :to be projected in any direction by the proper adjustment of a ball 4 as before described.

Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is 1. A flash light holder comprising a base plate, a housing mounted thereon, a cap threaded upon said housing, a ball head located within the housing cap, an angular holder carried by said ball head, means for securing a flash light upon said holder, a pair of clamps pivoted to the base plate, and springs for swinging said clamps toward each other.

2. In a device of the character described, a base plate, ears formed upon said plate, two wire clamps pivoted within said ears, each of said clamps being in the form of a circular loop, curved and corrugated to facilitate the gripping of a supporting object, springs attached to each of the clamps and also to the base plate for drawing said clamps toward each other, a ball and socket joint mounted upon the base plate, and means for mounting a flash light upon said joint.

3. In a device of the character described, a base plate, ears formed upon said plate, two wire clamps pivoted within said ears,

each of said clamps being in the form of a c rcular loop, curved and corrugated to facilitate the gripping of a supporting object,

springs attached to each of the clamps and also to the base plate for drawing said clamps toward each other, extensions formed with the clamps for limiting their outward movements, and adjustable means for sup porting a flash light upon the base plate.

4. In a device of the character described, a base plate, a ball and socket joint mounted upon said base plate, a sup ort car ied by the ball and socket joint, said support being angular in cross section and curved longitudinally for the proper reception of a flash light, resilient clamps attached. to said holder adapted to secure a flash light upon the latter.
