Be it known t at I, MELVIN HonsEY, a citizen of the, United States, residlng at Crisfield, in he county of Somerset and State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements .in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to advertislng devices, and the principal object of the inventhe action of gravity, assiSted, when neces-v sar or desirable, by a resilient member. 7

till another object of the invention Is to provide a transparent plate in front of the figures and. a combined supporting and d1splay casing at the rear of the plate and below the figures for supporting the device and containing the object or article to'be displayed, whlch may be seen through the said plate.

The invention also consists in certaln other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, 1llus trated in the accompanying drawlngs and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or'correspondin'g parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of thedevice;

The sheet 3 1s provided with an irregularlyvshaped part 6 which extends into the lower part of the opening 3', and the lower parts of the members 4 and 5 engage the rear face of thls part 6. The portions of the members 4 and 5 projecting abovethis part 6 are formed to represent the heads of a man and woman. The member representing the woman is of less height than that representing the man, and the member representing the man carries the representation of the womans arm as encircling his neck. The part 6 and the part of the plate 3 immediately below said part, carry the representation of a mans forearm with-his hand holding his hat and with the arm appearing in front of the Womans neck so that the two figures,

and the illustration below them, represent the woman as lying in the mans arms with her arm encircling his neck. The pivotal points of the two figures or members 4 and '5 are so arranged that gravity will cause the two figures to assume a position with thelr lips together in the act of kissing.

In order to insure the figures moving into this position and to assist the force of grayity, I may provide a spring or resilient member 7. which has one end connected to the member 4, which is the representation of the man, and its other end connected to a stationary part of the sheet 3 or its reinforcement. It will be seen that a part of the edge of the member 4 will bear against the edge of the member 5 so that the downward movement of the member 4 will be communicated to the member 5 if gravity should fail to move the said member 5. I may also place plates 8 on said members to act as Wei hts to insure their movement by weighting means and to strengthen the pivotal points. The plate 8 and the bottom of the member 4 is notched as at 8".

The'means for moving the figures upwardly away from each other consist of a Wheel 9 driven from any suitable source of power such as the spring 'motor 10, and which carries the pins '11 which are adapted to strike the bottom of the figure 4, and

the lower edge of the plate 8' to tilt said member 4 upwardly upon its pivot pin. As will be'seen, the ins engage that part of the member whic is adjacent the edge which is farthest from the pivotal point.

A casing 16 is located at the rear of the frame 1 with its upper edge engaging the cross piece 14 and itslower edge forming a rest or su port for holding the frame in upright position. I may provide a bottom for said casing-which isfsecuredto. the bottom piece of the frame and is suitablyconnected with the casin One end of the easing may be arrange as a door to provide access to the same.

The lower art of the sheet 3 may be cut as shown in ig. 1 to form a flap 18 which may be bent inwardly within the casing. .In

this way an opening is provided through which anything placed in the casing, may be seen through t e transparent front plate of the frame. .The fla is ushedinwardly and acts as a cover or t e article being displayed. The sheet 3 may contain any desired advertisements. A suitable backing 19 is used for holding the parts of the device in the frame and acting to hold the movable members against the 'glass' It will thus be seen that when the sprin motor is wound up the rotation of the whee 9 will cause its pins to contact with the bottom edge of the member 4 to raise the same and thus cause the figures to move apart. Upon the continued rotation of the wheel, the pin will pass into the slot 8* so that the figure 4 will swing downwardly under the action of gravity and as its edge strikes the edge of the other member this other member will also be rocked slightly so that the faces of the members will come together and their lips contact thus representing the figures 'as kissing. The chin of the man and the nose of the woman are slightly curved inwardly'so as to permit the mans chin to pass behind the womans 'chin and the womans nose to ass behind the mans nose to permit their ips to contact. The figures will remain in this position until the next pin strikes the edge of the member 4 when the said members will again move apart. Thus the movement of the figures will attract the notice of er-' tures of my invention will readily apv parent.

What I claim is: 1. A device of the class described comprising a pair of figures representing a man and a woman, supporting means upon which the figures are pivotally mounted in such a manner that the figures will assume a position caused by gravity with their lips in.

A device of the class described comprising a supporting frame, a pairof movable mmbers pivotally mounted thereon, the outer face of said frame and the exposed portions of said members being illustrated to represent a man and a woman embracing each other and means for moving the members toward and away from each other, said members beingso arranged that their lips will contact with each other as they approach one another, said actuating means including apin wheel engaging the lower part of one member, spring means for holding the member against the pins of said wheel .and a flexible member connecting the two members together.

3. A device 'of the class described comprising a supporting frame, a pair of figures pivotally supported thereon and representing a man and awoman, means for moving the figures toward and away from each other and a display casing at t e lower part of the frame and acting as asupporting means therefor.

4. A device of the class described comprising a supporting frame, a pair of figures ivotally mounted thereon and representing a man and a woman, means for movin the figures toward and away from ea'c other, said figures being so arranged that their lips will contact as the figures approach each other, a spring motor for actuating said means and an alarm actuated by the motor at the moment the figures come s1 MELVIN H OR EY.
