ATTACHMENT FOR SHOES.

To all whom it may concern:

' Beit known that I, WALTER WOOD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bay City, in the county of Tillamook and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful protecting the shoes and to serve the purpose of creepers to prevent slipping, etc; and

with these objects the invention consists in a construction, combination and relation of parts of which a preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein: i V

The" frame or body portion of the attach- V ment is in plan in substantially the form of the shoe sole, having a toe member 10 anda heel member 11 both of looped form and constructedof channel iron with the channel disposed to face inwardly. The flanges of the channel on one of the members are removed to form a reduced tongue 12.to be received between the flanges 'of the other member, so that said members may be ad justably fitted together and secured'by bolts 18 engaging registering openings 14 in the members, to adapt the attachment to fit shoes of different sizes. At the sides of the toe memberlO at intermediate points the upper flanges of the frame bar are turned upward to'form side clips or ears 15 and at the front end of the toe section there is provided a toe clip 16 adjustably secured tothe bar by means of bolts 17 engaging slots 18, and having an inturned upper lip 19 for engagement over the upper edge of the shoe sole as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. 1

Hingedly mounted to the center of the rear section of the :frame is aheel clamp 20 adapted to extend upward incontact with the rear side of the heel and having spurs 21 for engagement with the heel counter, said heel plate being bifurcated at its upper. end

to form forwardly extending arms 22 lying at opposite sides of the shoe counter and terminating in loops 23 with which are engaged the extremities of an instep strap 24 having an adjusting buckle 25. Obviously by engaging the toe clip over the front of the shoe or boot sole as indicated in Fig. 1,

and then folding the attachment up against the bottom of the shoe or boot and-securing I the instep strap, the; device will be firmly secured to the foot of the wearer and will effectively protect the shoe against wear without likelihood of disengagement notwithstanding the rough usage to which devices of this class are subjected.

What is claimed is 7 I 1. 'A shoe attachment of the class .described consisting of a substantially straight frame corresponding in plan with a shoe sole and consisting of toe and heel members of channel iron adjustably secured together at their meeting ends, the toe member being provided with a toe clip and the heel member with a heel clamp provided with forwardly and upwardly extending arms, and an instep strap connecting said arms. 2. A shoe attachment of the class described having a frame consisting of toe and heel loops 'of channel iron formed to engage the edges of the shoe and heel, one of said loops having its extremities reduced to form tongues to fit in the channels of the other member, bolts engaging registering transverse openings in the overlapping extremlties of saidmembers, the meeting ends of at intermediate points being turned up to 7 form ears for engaging the side edges of the shoe sole, a toe clip adj ustably secured to the front end of the sole member and having a rearwardly turned extremity for engaging the upper surface of the shoe sole, a heel clamp hingedly connected with the rear portion of the heel member and having counter engaging spurs and upwardly and forwardly divergent arms terminating in loops, and an instep strap connected with said loops and provided with an adjusting device.
