have invented new and useful Improvements in Rotary Character Toys, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to a toy and has for its particular object to so construct a toy that the embodiment thereof represents a character, which is illustrated by the manner or shape of head or figure mounted on a spherical rotary body and the novel manner of attiring the toy in harmony with the subject which it may represent, each embodiment illustrating a separate character. A further object is to obtain a toy which may be rolled or operated from any angle without becoming overturned. W ith these objects in view, the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:

Referring to the drawing, and more particularly to Fig. 2, the numeral 1, designates a hollow sphere or body of the toy, and passing horizontally through, for the body 1 to rotate thereon, is an axle rod 2, bent to form a U shaped member 3, for the support of the weight 4:, dependin from the axle rod 2, inside of body 1. The ends of axle rod 2, passing through the journals 5, are bent to form loops 6 at the sides of body 1. The portions extending vertically from loops 6 at sides of body 1, are bent at angle 7, directly over center of body 1, pass through a cork or fibrous member 8, and have the terminal points 9 clenched over said memher. The cork or fibrous member 8 is for securing the hollow head or figure 10, which supported by weight 4, assumes an upright position over center of body 1.

In Fig. 1 we have illustrated an operating bail 11, pivotally attached to loops 6 at ends of axle rod 2. Any suitable system of attachment may be used. That shown in the drawing is no part of our present invention;

the method illustrated is merely to show a simple form of construction. The operating bail 11, is bent in the center to form a loop 12, which is for the purpose of attaching means for transporting the toy. The bail 11, may also be folded and held vertically by loop 12 intersecting slightly beneath the 'angle 7, as shown in Fig. 2, thus allowing the toy to be rolled without attaching a cord. This is, of course, one of the simplest forms that our invention can assume. The device is emphasized by the attire in harmony with the character which the toy may represent, and the unique movement of the toy as it is being transported. The attire is integrally carried by the head or figure, the skirt portion falling over the rolling body, gives unusual novelty to the toy. It is of course to be understood that the manner or form of our invention as a whole is merely illustrative and not restricted in any particular feature, as we are aware that the details of construction can be more or less varied without departing from the spirit of the invention. Therefore, we do not desire to be restricted, except as set forth in the following claims:

And we claim 1. The combination in a toy, of a hollow rotary body with a head or figure having arms flexibly connected thereto, said head or figure supported over said body by means having a U shaped member formed solid with the axle portion and a weight rigidly attached thereto inside of said body; the vertically extending companion portions of said supporting means being joined together over center of said body securing a cork or fibrous member, and a permanent connection between said member and said head or figure, substantially as described.

In combination, a spherical body, a hollow head or figure adapted to represent a character, a weight for holding said head or figure in a vertical position over center of said body, said head or figure secured by a cork or fibrous member and a permanent connection between said member and said head or figure, substantially as described.
