Description
A. L. ANDERSON.
SOFT COLLA-B HOLDER. IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII 0.
ARNOL L. ANDERSON, or ATTLEBORO, Massacirusnrrs. 7
SOFT-COLLAR HOLDER.
. Application filed March 19, 1920. Serial No. 367,163.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AnNoLD L. ANDnRsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Soft-Collar Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in soft collar holders and the primary object of the invention is to provide a holder of this type which can be easily and quickly made without the use of solder and which in manufacture involves but two pieces or strips of materlal.
A further objectof the invention is to provide a holder which has positive and effective engagement with the collar ends or points so as to hold same together and to also retain the holder against accidental movement.
Further and other objects will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following description.
In the drawings: 1
Figure 1, is a top plan view of the invention,-
Fig. 2, is a rear elevation; and
Figs. 3 and 4, are sections on lines 3-3 and 44 respectively of Fig. 1.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a strip or bar of metal is used and bent to form a front 1, of convex form and has its ends'bent inwardly upon itself at 2, and formed with bends 3, forming abutments against which the collar ends or points are engaged. The ends are then bent substantially parallel to the front 1, and have their terminals 4, bent outwardly at right angles. The terminals 4 are formed with substantially rectangular openings 5, as depicted in Figs. 3 and 4, and receive therethrough a clamping bar 6. The clamp ing bar 6, has flattened parts 7, 7, which lie opposite to the terminals 4, 4, of the front bar so as to prevent longitudinal movement of the clamping bar with relation to.
the front bar. The end portions of the clamping bar 6, frictionally engage the abutments 3, and the terminals thereof are curved outwardly at 8, 8, so as to facilitate introduction of the collar ends or points between the clamping bar and the abutments 3, the latter providing rounded gripping jaws which engage the collar ends or points and hold same by engagement of the clamping bar against the collar ends.
The clamping bar is formed of metal havingresilient properties so as to positively clamp the collar ends in position between the clamping bar ends and the rounded jaws 3. I
In operation, the collar ends are moved inwardly against the spring clamping ac-,
tion of the ends 8, of the bar 6, and the latter press the collar ends securely and under considerable tension against the rounded abutments or jaws 3, so thatthe ends are effectively held in position. The entire structure can be formed of two bars or strips of metal; the'fiattening of the parts 7, 7 being a simple operation, the remaining operations being merely bending ones outside of the formation of openings 5, and the slight flattening of the terminals 4,.so as to provide for the openings 5.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is V 1. In a soft collar holder, a front bar having its ends bent inwardly and curved outwardly and then bent substantially parallel to the body of the bar'and finally bent at right angles and outwardly and formed with approximately rectangular openings, and a clamping bar passed through the openings and having parts lying opposite to and engaging the curved arts of the front bar, the outer ends of t e clamping bar being curved outwardly from the curved parts of the front bar and the clamping bar having flattened parts lying between and opposite to the terminals of the front bar so as to hold the clamping bar against longitudinal movement.
2. In a soft collar holder, a front bar having rounded resilient clamping jaws formed with perforated terminals, and a clamping bar extending through the perforations and exerting tension against the aws.
