Application filed March 27, 1916, Serial Ne. 87,074. Renewed March 17, 1920. Serial No. 366389.
TO (LZZ 'whom t'i' may concem:
Be it known that I, JOHANNES Loosn, of 31 Karlstrasse, Stnttgart-Cannstatt, in the Kingdom of Vnrttemberg, German Empire, snperintendent, have invented certain new and nsel'ul mprovements in Leather-Earing Machines, of which the 'following lS a specification. F
My invention relates to the working oi' leather and more especially to improvements in leather paring machines.
For the purpose of greeving leather it as already been snggested to provide the presser foot in leather paring machines with an excrescence which presses the leather against the hnife se that it is cnt thinner there.
Now in accordance with this inventien 'the improvement consists in forming` this excrescence as a separate remevable pressere piece instead of havin` it integral with the presser foot. The improvement constitutes E\ considerable advance in the art inasmuch as a separate presser foot is new no lenger necessary :i'or each groove to be formed, hnt the same presser foot can be provided with one 01- more pressnre pieces, insuch a way that according` to requirements one or more ;roeves of ditlerent fo *m can be made. Fun thermore the distance-between the pressure pieces may be varied, so that grooves may be made in the material any desired distance apart.
The invention is illustrated in several forms et constrnction as an example in the :iccon'ipanying drawings in which 'I Figur-e l an elevation ot the part n question of a leather paring machine provided V'lil] the improvement.
Fig. i& i'; a section of another term ot construi'tion.
Fig. 3 is a. ztien oi" a piece of leather which is provided with two greoves, which ;rrooves are made by means oi? the invention illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. %L is a section en an enlareed seale ot another way of fastening the pressnre piece.
According' to this nvention the presser foot 7) is provided with a releasable pressnre piece a, the lower side of which is made to correspond with the groove to be formed.
As Fig. l shows, the presser foot is provided with several releasable pressnre pieces a by means of which grooves f, as shown in Fg. 3 may be formed in the piece of material g. T he knife is indicated by (Z, while 6 represents the conveyer roller.
In all three forms of Construction the pressnre piece is adapted te be displaeed and fixed. in accordance with the form of construction illustrated in Fig. l; the pressure pieces e are monnted in a slot h, and are adapted to be displaced and fixed, while according to Fg. 2 the pressure piece a partially incloses the presser foot Z), and in Fi 4 it incloses it all around. ,The pressure pieces a are fixed by means of screws c.
The number, shape, and method of fixing the pressure pieces a is of subordinate importance, the most essential thing in the present invention being that the pressnre pieces may be releasably connected with the pres-:ser 'oot. The material (operated on) is also immaterial; instead of leather any other suitable material may be employed.
I claim l. In a machine for paring leather and like material, in combination, a presser foot, and associated with said foot at least two pressure pieees adjustable in such manner as to vary the distance between said pressure pieces.
In a machine for paring leather and like material, in combination, a presser foot, and a plurality of detachable pressure pieces associated with. said foot, said pressure pieces being adjustable on the pressnre face of the presser foot.
In a machine for paring leather and lil e material, in combination, a presser foot and a plnrality of detachable pressure pieces asseciated with said foot, said pressure pieces being adjustable snbstantially in the direction. of extension of the pressure edge ot the presser foot.
in testimony whereof I ax my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHANNES LOOSE.
In presence oi- FRIDA KLAIBER, ERNsT ENSENMARY.
