To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES LENHART, a citizen of the Republic of Austria, and resident of New York in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-Slides for Cabinet-Drawers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to extension slides for cabinet drawers, and has for its object to provide extension slides which are strong and durable in construction, easy in manipulation, and readily demountable and separable by any m'anually unskilled person.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference relate to like-named parts on the drawings.
Referring briefly to the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevational view of one member of my device.

Fig. 1 is an end elevational view of the member illustrated in Fig. 1. Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic view illustrative of the mode of operation of my device.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, 1 represents the rear wall of a cabinet, and 2 the front boundary line thereof. 3 is the supportin panel upon which a drawer 4: slides, said drawer being provided with the upwardly extended front panel 5.
The member 6 is constructed of steel and is hollow open at both ends, and is of the cross-sectnn shown in Fig. 1, and is provided with a longitudinal channel 6. Screw-receiving holes 9 are drilled in the rear wall of said member, and additional larger holes 13, concentric with said holes 9 are drilled in the upwardly bent lower end said member for the passage of a screw driver onto the screws to be placed in holes 9.
Boilers 10, 11, and 12 are mounted between the lower sides of said member, as shown and an iron block 7 is secured between said rollers 10 and 12 by means of screws or rivets 18. A rubber stopper or bumper 11 is secured to the roof of said member 3 b means of screws and. nuts 15. A long s ot 8 is Specification of Letters Patent.

Figs. 1 and 1 show member 17 which is inserted within the member 6, as seen in Fig. 1 and slides on rollers 10--1112. Said member 17 is also of steelfbeing hollow and having a longitudinal channel 29 and oblique channels 18 and 19, respectively. Holes 20 and 2 1, for the passage of a screw driver, are provlded in the rear wall thereof. A rubber bumper 22 is secured between the side walls of member 6, at the front of the channel 19,
' by rivets or screws 28. A slot 24* ektends along the roof of saidmember 17 between the points 249 and 24, the same being provided for the insertion of the bracket 24 support ing the rubber bumper 25, when the device is being mounted for use. Member 17 is inserted into member 6 from the left, with bracket 24: removed. Then bracket 24 is inserted into position through the slot 24- and secured to the wall of member 17 by screws;
the front wall of said member is also provided with relatively larger holes for the passage of a screw driver to the holes. A roller 27 is'supported behind the bumper 25, and serves to guide the member 17, when in motion, against the roof of the cabinet cell.
Member 31 consists of a plate having screw holes 36 for securin the same to the side wall of a drawer. ig. 1 shows the same as secured to the drawer 42 by means of screws 13. Bolts or screws 34. and 35 are secured to said member by nuts 38, which are referably permanently sweated in place. ollers 32 and 33 are mounted on that side of said bolts opposite to said nuts. Loose steel sleeves 37 are provided about the necks of said bolts between the plate member 31 and said rollers. Member 31 is inserted into position by first guiding the roller 33 through the channel 18 into the channel 29, and along the channel 29 until the roller 32 is at the entrance to channel 19. Then the roller 33 is passed through the channel 19 into the channel 29. Thus, then, the member 31, and consequently the cabinet drawer 42, is free to slide longitudinally in the channel 29.
The device is readily put together by first securing to each side of the interior of the cabinet a member 6. Then, as above mentioned, a member 17 is inserted from the rear into each member 6, the bracket 24. and the rubber bumper 25 being then attached to the wall of member 17. Finally, a member 31'is secured to each side of the drawer 42 and the latter is taken in both hands and inserted in place by means of the rollers 32 and 33 being guided through the channels 18 and 19, as above related.
Fig. 2 shows the slides in operation, the drawer 4 being shown withdrawn, and the follower block 39 being shown in the, rear of the drawer. Bumper 22 serves to limit the forward motion of roller 32 and to absorb the shock of a sudden opening of the drawer. Similarly bumper 14 serves to limit the motion of member 17 by contact with the up- Wardly projecting bumper.
The rollers 32 and 33 travel on the floor of member 17 thus supportin member 31 and the drawer. The sleeves 3 do not contact, normally, with the lower or upper sides of the channel 29, but in case of shock or tilting, said sleeves will ride on the lower side and support the member 31. -Being made of steel, said sleeves will not be sub is ject to extensive wear. The roller 27 guides the member 17 in a straight line horizontally. The iron block 7 prevents any shock to the roller 12 on return motion of the drawer, permitting the member 17 to slide easily over said roller.
In Fig. 2 it is apparent that the greater part of the weight of the drawer and its contents, if there be any, is supported by the rollers 10 and 11. Hence, for long drawers or cabinets, the distance between the rollers 10 and 12 may be increased and the rollers 10 and 11 may remain in the same relative position.
From the foregoing it is seen that I have provided an extension device for cabinet drawers that is both simple and compact in construction, and easy in manipulation.
The drawer 42 may readily be removed, as may often be desired, and replaced without any difliculty. My device presents none of the many faults found in most extension drawers at present on the market. For instance, it embodies no protruding hooks or bent ends or edges; it slides smoothly, without shock or undue friction, the contacting parts being all of steel and subject to a mmimum' of wear and maximum of life; the entire device ma be mounted for use by one man with but a ew simple instructions; and the same is far less expensive to make than most less proficient and more fragile devices.
Having thus described my invention, what ll claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
In a device of the class described, a hollow member secured to the wall of the cab-- inet having a longitudinal channel, rollers in the lower part of said member, a longitudinal slot in the roof thereof, a cushion bumper thereon, a second member adapted to slide within said first-named member on said rollers, the latter member provided with a longitudinal channel and a bumper at its rear adapted to pass through said slot and to strike said first-named bumper in the ex.- tended position of the drawer, oblique channels in said second-named member communicating with said longitudinal channel therein, a cushioned bumper inthe forward part of said second-named member, a roller projecting through the roof thereof, a plate adapted to be attached to, said drawer having rollers mounted thereon, said rollers adapted to engage the floor of said channel in said second-named member, loose sleeves on the pins of said rollers, and means in said first-named member to prevent shock to the rollers in the lower part thereof on return motion of said drawer, comprising a metallic block having a plane top surface substantially tangentlal to said last-named rollers at the topmost points of said rollers, and extending over substantially the entire distance between two of said rollers.
