Be it known that I, PATRICK J. Frrz- GERALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Torrington, in the county of Litchfield, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bath-Sprays, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the figures of reference marked thereon.

This invention relates to bath sprays, and

more particularly to a combined bath spray and massage device.

One of the objects of this invention is to provide a device of the character described in which the perforated face plate of the spray head is provided with a plurality of detachable massage members.

Another object of this invention is to provide the face plate of the spray head with a plurality of massage members arranged about the spray openings to produce the most advantageous spraying and massaging effects.

Still another object of this invention is to combine with a sprayhead of the character described, a soap container arranged within the spray head. in the path of the water inlet whereby the spray is given a soapy quality.

These and other objects will in part be obvious and will in part be hereinafter more fully disclosed.

In general, the invention comprises a spray head provided with a face plate and a back plate forming a closed water chamher having a water inlet. The face plate is provided with a centrally located removable massage member and a plurality of similar concentrically arranged massage members. concentric massage members, the face plate is provided with a series of spray openings, whereby the device may be used to massage the body of the user while permitting the free discharge of the water from the spray head.

Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the bath spray includes a spray head comprising a face plate 1, to which is secured, in any desirable manner, a back plate 2 having the dome 8. These front and. back plates form a closed water chamber proper with a water inlet 4. In the present instance, the edge of the back plate 2 is crimped about the annular edge of the face plate. The inner side of the face plate is preferably formed with a centrally raised boss 5 or provided with a threaded opening for the purpose of receivingthe threaded stem 6 of the central massage member 7 hereinafter described, and preferably concentrically arranged about. this central boss 5 is a plurality of similar bosses 8. As clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3, these bosses are annularly spaced about the edge of the face plate so, that when the massage members 9 are threaded into these bosses 8, they will be spaced from the central massage member 7. Other ways of forming these threaded openings in the face plate will readily suggest themselves. Between these spaces formed by the outer massage members and the central massage nipple 7, the face plate 1 is providedwith a series of spray openings 10. By this arrangement, the water spray through the face plate will discharge between the massage nipples and the full advantage of the spray in connection with an extensive massaging area can be secured. It is obvious that this invention comprehends any arrangement of the spray apertures in relation to the detachable massaging device whereby these massage members do not interfere with the proper spray discharge.

Referring more particularly to the massage nipples, it will be seen that the central and outer members are similarly constructed, each including a threaded stem, a preferably rubber body portion 11 formed with depending massage fingers 12. In lieu of the specific form of massage nipple shown in Fig. 2, other types such as the sponge shown in Fig. 4 may be substituted. This device includes a threaded spindle 13 to V which is attached a cap 14 formed with the sponge disk 15.

i A further feature of the invention 0011 prises the means for providing the spray with a soap container so located that the water coming into the spray head from the water inlet discharges directly upon the soap within the container to provide a soapy spray. Various constructions may be used.

V g In Fig. 5 is shown one means for carrying this out. In this embodiment, the central dome 3 is provided with a centrally arranged downwardly projecting flange 16 having an annular lip 17 on which is seated a flange 18 of the soap basket 19, which'may be of wire mesh or any other open construction. The flange 18 is securely clamped in place by the threaded cap 20 so that the soap basket 19 may be removed if its use is not desired. It is obvious that this soap basket may be also detachably connected with the top of an imperforate dome, in which case, the back plate 2 would be detachably threaded to the face plate to permit the removal of the basket 19. It is furthermore evident that various meansfor locating this spray head within the basket may be used.

A device constructed as above combines all the features of the bath spray with a massage instrument. The construction described is particularly effective for the reason that the massaging nipples are removable and maybe replaced when worn out or they may be replaced by other massaging or body contacting devices such as the sponge shown in Fig. 4. It is furthermore evi- 'dent that it the user wish to remove the central member 7, theopening in the central boss will permit a greater discharge of water therethrough while i the concentric ring of massaging devices will be sufficient massaglng area. 7 7

It is obvious that minor changes in the details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is

1. A combined bath sprayand massage device comprising a spray head including with screw stems detachably threaded into said openings, said plate having a series of spray openmgs lntermedlate said threaded openings.
