WILLIAM H. HOPE, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
ROLL-CONTAINER.
aaaeoe.
Application filed January 15, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lViLLmM II. Horn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Ithode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boll-Containers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to roll containers and pertains more particularly to a box or container for carrying printers rolls so as to hold the ornamental surfaces thereof out of all contact with the walls of the container to thereby protect such surfaces against injury.
A further object of the invention is to provide a container which is of simple and economical construction and which allows of easy and quick positioning of the roll within the container and corresponding removal thereof from the container.
In the drawings Figure 1, is a perspective view of the invcntion.
Fig. 2, is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1,
and
Fig. 5, 1s a section on line of I 1g. 2. The inventlon embodies a body composed of four sides or panels 1, which may be formed of wood or other suitable material, such as of a fibrous nature, which sides or panels are assembled in the formation depicted in the drawings.
A pair of similar metal heads 2 are employed, each having four outer guide flanges 3 integral therewith, and conforming to the periphery of the head, and correspondingly shaped inner guide flanges or members 4, which may be angle-like brackets or clips, as illustrated, are suitably secured to the heads 2 in such position thereon so as to abut the inner faces of the boards 1 and to hold the latter in the assembled relation. shown in the drawings. Each head is centrally countersunk as shown at 5 and perforated to receive a headed bolt 6 having a nut 7 thereon. As shown in Fig. 8 the open center C of the roll It will be received overthe countersunk parts 5, which parts 5, are as shown slightly tapered so as to readily engage the roll and center same.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the sides will be effectually held against all movement and all of the parts are secured by the single nut 7 which upon removal Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 351,517.
allows the heads to be removed and the sides separated. 'By tightening of the nut, the parts are drawn together to form a strong and rigid structure.
To assemble, the roll may be placed at one end over the countersunk part 5 of one head and over the bolt; the four panels then engaged with the inner and outer guide flanges of said head, following which the other head is applied and finally the nut threaded onto the bolt and screwed up tight.
With this structure, it is unnecessary to provide fastenings for the sides or panels to secure same to each other.
The flanges 3 are formed to completely extend throughout the periphery of the heads so as to seal the spaces between the panels and the heads, while the inner guides 4% are mere L-clips and may be formed of scraps of metal that are soldered or welded or otherwise secured to the heads.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a roll carrier, a pair of heads each having outer guide parts and having a tapered central countersunk portion forming a projection extending inwardly of the heads, substantially L-shaped guide parts cured along the edges at one end thereof to the inner faces of the heads, sides engaged between the guide parts, and a single bolt having a nut, the bolt extending through the projections and the latter extending within the end portions of the roll whereby the projections support the roll out of engagement with the sides and out of engagement with the roll.
2. In a roll carrier, a pair of heads each having spaced inner and outer guide 'parts and having a central projection on the inner face thereof, and a single bolt having a nut, the bolt extending through the projections and the latter extending within the end por tions of the roll whereby the projections support the roll out of engagement with the sides and out of engagement with the roll.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence oftwo subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM H. HOPE.
