LABEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 4, 1920.
Application filed August 21, 1919. Serial No. 319,854.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL F. STEIN, of \Villiam'sport, Lycoming county, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Labels, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion thereof.
Labels are in general use, especially for garments, that consist of a strip of cloth with desired words or other matter woven or embroidered in the strip. The object of my invention is to provide a substitute for such labels, which will have the same appearance, but capable of much cheaper production. My invention, accordingly, consists of a label, substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing, the figure is a plan view of a label embodying my invention.
The label shown in the drawing is a strip 10 of cloth or woven fabric upon which is printed by suitable type or dies and ink the desired matter appropriate to a garment, say the name or monogram of the garment maker or seller. To simulate the appearance of woven or embroidered characters, the edges or the outlines of the characters are serrated in correspondence with the serrated edges of the embroidered design or pattern due to the use of the threads lying parallel and side by side, and to still further heighten the resemblance, straight parallel lines are printed across the letters or characters which correspond or suggest the division lines between adjacent threads in the case of actual embroidery.
my invention, an inexpensive but highly satisfactory substitute for the socalled woven labels is produced.
I claim:
1. A label composed of a piece of flexible material on which is printed the desired matter in simulation of embroidery, such simulation being produced by ink lines that indicate threads.
2. A label composed of a piece of flexible material on which is printed the desired matter in simulation of embroidery, the edges or outlines of the design being serrated.
3. A label composed of a piece of flexible material on which is printed the desired matter in simulation of embroidery, the edges or outlines of the design being serrated and the face of the design having parallel straight lines across it.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set In hand.
MUEL F. STEIN.
