This invention relates to improvements in radiators.
The obj cts of this invention are:
First, to provide a radiator comprising a plurality of detachable sections tha may he quickly and easily detached the upper and lower water tanks.
Second, to provide structure of the class desc in which each of the detachable sections is so formeo. as to provide a structure which can successfully withstand the jolts and jars to which it is subjected without causing it to leak.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural letails, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming pa 't of this specification, in which:

The water tanks 1 and 2 are provided with opposed inwardly extending channels and 1.0, respectivel having the vertical alls l1 and 12, respectively, which are :""CVllGCl with a plurality of spaced openo. The detachable radiator sections each comprises an upper header 1% and a lower header 15. These upper and lower headers identical in construction and each comprises a pair of manifolds 16 having open ends 17 adapted to he ved in the shouldered openings 13. Shoulders 18 adjacent the open ends 1'? cooperate with the shoulders of the openings 13, suitable gaskets 19 bein provided for these joints.
lhe two manifolds 16 are made integral by the spaced webs 20 and 21 and the inner sides of the manifolds are provided with a plurality of spaced apertured threaded bosses 22, which receive the ends of the radiator tubes The ends of these tubes are secured in the bosses 22 and the joints made waterti ht by means of suitable glands 2i and gaskets 25, the ends of the tubes entering the bosses being straight and smooth.
If desired, the radiator tubes 23 may be provided with the usual radiating disks 26. To secure the radiator sections in position, I provide clamping members 27 having rounded conformed projections 28 at each end thereof, one of which bears against the front wall of the adjacent water tank and the c. er of which is received in the concaved depressions 29 formed in the ends of the headers. Furthermore, by forming adgacent pairs of manifolds into an integral structure, a single clamp may be used for clamping pair of the manifolds to V the radiator tanks, thereby producing a more economical struxture to manufacture, and one which can be assembled and disassembled much more quickly than those structures inwhich each of the maniroldsis separately formed.
My improved radiator is especially designed me for use on trucks, tractors and the like, which are subjected to heavy work and in which there is considerable liability of injury to the tubes.
l Vith the parts arranged as I have illus trated and described, the sections are all freely accessible for renewal or repair, and in-case of'removal of a section the manifold openings in the tanks may be plugged and the radiator used until a new or repaired section can be inserted.
I have not attem ited to illustrate or. describe certain modifications which might be desirable to adapt my improvements to radiators of diiferent forms or types, as I believe the disclosure made will enable those skilled in the art to which my invention relates to embody or adapt the same as may be desired. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to s cure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a radiator, the combination of an upper tank having a downwardly offset channel on its under side and a lower tank having an upwardly oiiset channel on its upper side, said channels being disposed at the rear of the tanks and having spaced shouldered manifold openings in their front walls, a plurality of radiator sections each comprising upper and lower headers, each.
".vhereby said tubes are retained and supported, gaskets for said manifold openin s, and clamps mounted on an overhanging pertion of said tanks engaging the outer ends of said manifolds.
2. In a radiator, the combination of an upper tank having a downwardly offset channel on its under side and a lower tank having an upwardly offset channel on its upper side, said channels being disposed at the rear of the tanks and having manifold openings in their front walls, a plurality of radiator sections each comprising upper and lower headers, each header consisting of a pair of integral manifolds having shouldered open inner ends disposed in the manifold openings of said tanks and plurality of laterally projecting opposed apertured bosses, radiator tubes disposed with their ends in said apertured bosses of said headrs, and packing glands provided with gaskets threaded upon said bosses whereby said tubes are retained and supported.
