Be it known that I, HARRY Ln ROY Burn K, a citizen of the United States, resident of St. Paul, county of Ramsey, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sheave-BlocksJ of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple, economical construction of sheave block which will cause the load to be uniformly distributed upon all of the block plates.

A further object is to provide a block which can be used conveniently either with a shackle or hook, as desired.

The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawing, 2 represents the outer plates and 3 the intermediate plates 0f the block, and 4: a bolt passing through all of the plates at the top of the block and having spacing spools 5 with concave surfaces which come in contact with the rope in the use of the block. The plates 2 have outwardly turned or curved edges 6 to prevent the rope from becoming frayed or worn by contact therewith. 7 is a central shaft passing through all of the plates and also through the side bars or straps 8, which eX- tend from the top to the bottom of the block and have bearings on the ends of the bolt l as well as on the shaft 7. These straps serve to brace and stiifen the block and aid in carrying the load.

At the lower end of the block is a pin l0 which passes through the side straps and all of the plates and is provided with a series of thimbles 11 which hold the plates apart and prevent them from chating the sheaves. Upon these thirubfies I mount a stirrup 12 bent to a substantially U-shaped form and having slots 13 therein to straddle the lower ends of the plates 3, the lower edges of these slots, contacting with the lower ends of the plates and preventing the stirrup from working up in the block suiiiciently to contact with and chafe the sheaves or the rope. The stirrup rests upon the spacing thimbles l1 and its ends depend below the lower end of the block and are provided with a pin 111 on which a U-shaped shackle 15 is suspended. Vhenever desired, this pin may be removed and a shorter one 16 substituted therefor, for supporting a hook 17 in place of the shackle. The block can thus be easily and quickly converted from one type to the other by the simple removal of a cotter pin 18 and the substitution of one supporting stirrup pin for the other.

In Fig. 5 I have shown a means for attaching a becket to the block, which consists in providing plates v19 mounted on the bolt 4. at each end of one of the thimbles 5 and having a bolt'20 passing through the upper ends thereof.

I claim as my invention:

l. A sheave block comprising outer and intermediate plates spaced apart in parallel relation and sheaves mounted between them, a pin passing through said plates below said sheaves., spacing thimbles mounted on said pin between said plates and a sheet metal stirrup folded into a substantially U-shaped form to rest upon said thimbles and having a slot in its curved portion to receive the lower end of said intermediate plate for limiting upward movement of said stirrup, the depending ends of said stirrup having means. for connecting a shackle thereto.

2.
