7 Application filed November To all whom it may Gmwcv'u:
Be it known that we, JOHN 'SARDO and Pansy Panrso, citizens of the United States, residing at Elmira, in the county of Chemung and State of New York, havev invented new and useful Improvements in Microweters, of which the following is a tion. I
The object of the invention is to provide a new and novel form of micrometer designed for internal as well as external measure ments, whereby the internal diameter of tubing or the internal diameter of holes, bores and the like may be readily and accurately determined. To this end the invention comprises attachments for the spindle and anvil of a micrometer which at- I tachments may be readily remored when not m use.
Qther and il'urther objects or the invention appeal-in the following description wherein the invention is set forth in detail.
To the exact construction in which'it is shown, and described; the invention isno" t be restricted. The right is reserved to in l such changes or alterations as the actual rein the accompanying drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate like parts,
Fl ors 1 is a view in side elevation of the improved micrometer.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. '1 with the yoke broken away.
Fig. 8 ma similar section on the line (rt-Fig. 1.
Fig. 4' 1S a section on the line i s of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 s a section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the invention is shown as comprising amicrometer similar to the conventional tool of this char acter, the gage comprising the yoke 1, the spindle 2, the sleeve 3,the thimble i, and the anvil 5. The spindle, as is usual, is threadingly engaged in the yoke, but the latter is provided with the extension 6 projecting .laterallyas regards the spindle. This extension 6 at its end is formed with the double tubular bearing member 7, the two elements of which are parallel, so that each may slidingly receive a stud 8 carried by the body portion 9 of a measuring element generally designated 10, the latter being provided with Specification of Letters Patent.

the finger 11 at the terminus of which there is an upturned measurmg 11p 12,: the latter being rounded to permit accuracy of measurement' in the gaging of concaved surfaces, such as the attachment is deslgned to ass1st in measurin The bed Y aortion 9 of the element .10 adjacent that en'dremote from the finger carries'a disk 13, the latter being provided with annular flanges 14 which enthe body member both on the upper and lower surfaces. This construction pro- I vides for. rotary movement of the disk relative to the body portion but precludes its movement in an axial direction relative thereto. This disk 18 is engageable with the free end of the spindle 2, a hole'being provided through which a screw 16 may pass and threadingly engage a tap ed hole formed in the free end of the spindle 2, A second measuring element 17 is provided for attachment to the anvil .5, the latter being bored longitudinally to p *rrnit a screw 18 to be passedthrough it and to threadingly enthe body portion being "formedwith transversely di )SGCl rib QOwhich engages a similar slot ioimedin the anvil. Thus anga, lar movement of the element 7 on the anvil. is precluded. The element 17 is, as is the element 10, provided with a finger 21, this finger terminating in the downturned measuring lip 22 also rounded oi? as is the lip 12 for the purpose of a .curacy in measurement during the gaging or measuring of concave surfaces.
It is obvious that the device may be used for measuring diameters or holes and the gage thebody portion-19 or theelement 17,
like as well as for exterior i'neasurement, the V moval of the screws 18 and 16, when thegaging is accomplished directly with the spindle and anvil as is usual with this character of In the foregoing descrlption and the accompanying drawings, it is believed that'the invention hasbeen clearly enough set forth to render further description unnecessary.
The invention having been. described what is claimed as nevrand usciul is:
1. A tool ofthe kind described comprising the combination with the yoke, spindle and anv l of a micrometer, the yoke having an extension formed adjacent the spindle, oi a double tubularbearing' element formed with said extension, an internal measuring element having a body attachable to the spindle, studs carried by said body and slidably engaging the units of said double bearing element, the body being formed with a fin ger having a measuring lip at its free end,
and a second measuring element having a body attachable to the anvil, the said second measuring element also being i'orined with aiinger having a measuring lip at its end.
2. In a tool of the kind described, the combination with a inioron'ieter having a yoke, a spindle and an anvil, the yoke adjacent th spindle being formed with a slide bearing element, of internal measuring elements de taohably secured to the spindle and anvil re spectively, the said measuring elements projecting laterally with respect to the anvil and spindle, the element connecting with the spindle having sliding means engageable with said slide bearing. V
3. A tool of the kind described comprising the combination with the yoke, spindle and anvil, of a micrometer, of a'measuring elenient formed with a finger and having a measuring lip at the free end of said finger, the said measuring element being detachably secured to the anvil, a second measuring elenient formed with a body and also having a linger with ameasuring lip at the end thereoi, a disk rotatably mounted in the body, means for detachably securing said disk to said spindle, and means carried by V the body and slidably engaging the yoke to preclude angular movement of the bod and its finger when the spindle is being rotated.
A tool of the kind described comprising the combination with the yoke, spindle and anvil of a micrometer, oi a measuring element formed with a finger and having a measuring lip at their-cc end of said finger,
the said measuring element being detachably JOHN SARDG. PATSY PARISO.
