Description
" H. EARL, Jr. Pivot Stools.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HUGH EARL, JR, OF NEW .YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO FLETCHER W. DICK- ERMAN, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT in PIVOT-STOOLS,
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,310, dated November 25, 1872,
To all whom it may concerm Be it known that I, HUGH EARL, Jr., of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Pivot-Stool; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will-enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying clra wing forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 represents a vertical central section of my improved pivot-stool. Fig. 2 is a top view of the supporting-post. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan View of the pivot and seat.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention has for its object to lock the seats of pivot-stools to the supporting-posts in suchlnanner that they can freely revolve but not be spontaneously detached. The invention consists in forming a projecting lug on the upper end of the pivot and a notched inner flange on ,the upper end of the hollow post, so that when the lug has, through the notch, been brought under the flange the seat cannot be lifted off the pivot. The lug under the flange holds the I seat down and prevents it frombeing accidentally lifted off the post, allowing it, however, to be turned as freely as before.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent- The flange b of hollow case A, combined with lug d of rotary pivot O, as and for the purpose specified.
HUGH EARL, JR.
