Be it known that I, HARRY L. BRESLAW, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in the ears and base of the back of the head without tending to protrude laterally from these parts of the wearer, besides overcoming the liability of soiling and prematurely damaging the exposed part of the band by contact with the head of the wearer as is incident to types of caps made with bands adapted to be turned-up andturned-down. The invention consists mainly of a crown member which may be of any well-known or preferred form, and on the exterior of the crown member at its marginal edge is a movable band member of fur. To the crown member at its marginal edge is connected a flexible slide element which is also attached to the band member in a manner so that the band member may be slidably guided back and forth to extensible positions below the marginal edge of the crown member.

A further object of the invention is to provide a fur cap of a simple, efficient and durable construction, and which is susceptible of being made in various shapes and sizes.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, the said invention being more fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of one form of fur cap embodying my invention showing the band of the cap adjusted to cover the ears and lower part of the back of the head of a person.

The cap has a fur crown member. lOwhich maybe of the usual or any preferred shape and size for being removably worn by a person on the head in the fashion common to wearing theusual styles of caps. Extending from the marginal edgeofthe front part of the crown member 10 may be a fur vizor 11 which may also be of the ordinary or any preferred type for shading and protecting the forehead andeyes of the wearer. Movably fitting closely the crown member 10 on the exterior of the portion at its marginal edge is a band member 12, which may be of a length so that its ends terminate in proximity to the vizor 11, and this band member may be of any suitable width,

though the member is usually made sufficiently wide that when adjustably arranged to extend below the crown member the back of the head and the ears of the wearer will be completely covered. This band member is also made of'fur in a manner whereby its pile is exposed on both of its surfaces. This is accomplished by making the band member of a strip of the required length,

and then overlapping both of its lengthwise of the crown member, and the tapered ends 13 and 14 of the band member may be yieldingly fastened togetherby means of one or more strips of elastic thread or rubber, as 14. This elastic strip is disposed crosswise of the front of the crown member above the v'izo'r 11, and by the use of the strip in this manner the band member when lowered downwardly from the free edge of the crown member will tend to be guided inwardly and under the crown member as shown in Fig. 4, so as to closely hug the head and ears of the wearer of the cap.

In order to allow the band member 12 to be slidably adjusted upwardly and downwardly to and from extensible positions be low the edge of the crown member 10, I provide a slide element, as 15. The slide element may be made of cloth or other flexible material, and this element is substantially similar in length to the length of the band member 12. The upper and lower edges of the slide element are preferably rectilinear, While the ends of the element are cut away on an incline or tapered, as at 16 and.17, from the lower edge of the element to its upper edge. The lower edge of the slide element 15 including the inclined parts 16 and 17 are stitched or otherwise secured, as at 18, to both of the lengthwise overlapping edges of the band member 12, while the upper lengthwise edge of the slide element is also stitched or otherwise attached, as at 21, to the edge of the crown member 10 of the cap.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A cap comprising a crown member, a band member movably arranged partially around the crown member at its marginal edge and having tapered ends, said band member being of a length and arranged so that its tapered ends are spaced apart at the sides of the crown member near the front of the latter, a tapered flexible strip having one of its lengthwise edges connected to the edge of the crown member and having its second lengthwise edge attached substantially centrally to the band. member wherebythe band member may be slidably adjusted above and below the marginal edge of the crown member, and means yieldingly connecting the tapered ends of the band member to pull the latter inwardly and under the crown member when the band member is adjusted below the crown. member.

2. A. cap comprising a fur crown member, a fur band member with overlapped edges so that the fur is exposed on both surfaces, said band member being movably arranged partially around the crown member at its marginal edge and having tapered ends as wellas being of a length and arranged so that its tapered ends are spaced apart at the sides of the crown member near the front of the latter, a tapered flexible strip having one of its lengthwise edges connected to the edge of the crown member and having its second lengthwise edge attached to the edges of the overlapped parts lengthwise of the band'mem-ber. whereby the band member may be slidably adjusted above and below I the marginal edge of the crown member, and an elastic strip connecting the tapered ends of the band member and disposed crosswise of the front of the crown member topull the band member inwardly and under the crown member when the band member is adjusted below the crown member.
