With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, form and arrangement of the several parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates a substantially semicircular eraser holder constructed of spring sheet metal and having inwardly directed spring retaining fingers 7 struck out from the side walls 6 thereof or secured thereto. The holder 5 is of adequate size to receive approved types of circular erasers and the spring fingers 7 engage and retain the eraser in position therein and prevent it from slipping out when the typewriter to which the device is attached is tilted.

The holder 5 is attached to the typewriter by an attachingclip 8, which is formed of spring metal and is adapted to embrace any desired part of the typewriter to which it is desired to secure the attachment. The free ends of the typewriter engaging members of the clip are clamped in position by a wing nut 9. I r

A transversely curved strip 10 constituting a support for the eraser cleaning and shaping element 11 is provided with laterally projecting ears 12, which are suitably fastened to one side wall 6 of the holder. The supporting strip 10 is substantially U- shaped in cross section, as shown in Fig. 3, and the opposed longitudinal edges thereof ,of the element 11, whereas by movin are provided with inwardly directed flanges 13, whichoverlie the edges of the cleaning and shaping element 11 and assist in retaining' the latter in position.

The cleaning and shaping element 11 is preferably constructed of a piece of curved sheet metal having a roughened inner surface to render it abrasive so as to effectively clean and shape the edge of an eraser inserted therein. A spring clip 14.- is attached to one end of the cleaning and shaping element 11 and embraces'the adjacent end of the supporting strip 10 to detachably secure the element 11 in position therein.

For convenience a pencil supporting clip 15 is attached to the side wall of the eraser holder 5 under the supporting strip 10.

When not in use, the eraser, illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 1, is inserted in the holder 5 where it is retained against accidental removal by the spring fingers 7. When it is desired to clean the edge of the eraser or reshape it, said edge is inserted in the curved cleaning and shaping element 11 and is moved back and forth across the abrading surface of the element. Owing to the peculiar formation of the shaping element 11 the edge of the eraser may be worn down by moving it across the lower portion the side surfaces of the eraser across the si es of the element 11 a relatively sharp edge may be produced upon the eraser.

What I claim is:

An eraser cleaner comprising a substan tially U-shaped holder element, inturned flanges at the upper edges of the arms of said holder element, a substantially transversely U-shaped cleaner and shaper element adapted to be fitted in said holder element and having the upper edges of its arms positioned beneath the flanges so that the inner RAYMOND H.
