The invention relates to a machine for graduating collars, disks, and like work, the mechanism'beingsuch as to insureaccuracy in the graduations and the lengthening of certain marks to facilitate the reading, whereby groups of indications are denoted. The invention provides a machine. of the character stated; which may be readily adapted for marking collars or diskseither on the face or edge, or for marking such parts ha ing beveled edges upon which the markings are to be indicated.
' The drawings illustrate a preferred embodiment of the invention- However, it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions, various changes in the. form, proportiomand minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the nature. of the invention as claimed hereinafter. v

guide member 28 is pivotally mountedupon a shaft 29and is adapted to be secured in the adjusted position by suitable fastening means. Z" The head 3 comprises a base and uprights and one of the latter is formed with an arcuate slot 30 in which operates a bolt or like fastening 31. When the fastening 31 is loosened the guide member 28 maybe turned on the shaft 29 to the required adjusted position to adapt the marker to the work. One of the uprights of the head 3 hasits edge formed on the arc of a circle concentric with the shaft 29 and provided with graduations '32, whereby to facilitate the setting of the guide member 28 when adjusting the same to a given angle. The shaft 29 is provided at one end with a hand wheel 33 and at its opposite end with a disk or wheel 34 which is provided upon its outer side with a diametrical guideway 35 which receives an adjustable wrist 36 upon which is mounted a sleeve to which the rod 23 is adjustably connected. Adjustment of the wrist 36 in the guideway 35 to a greater or less distance from the axis ofithe shaft .29 results in varying the throw of the lever21 and movement of the ratchet wheel 24 at each operation thereof. The marker 39 is adjustable. and detachable from the holder 38, whereby to admit of sharpening and replacement. A pin 40 projects laterally from the holder 38 and passes through a vertical slot 41 formed in side of the guide member 28. A contractile helical spring 42 is connected at one end to the pin 40 and at its opposite end to a pin 43 which projects from the. guide member'28. The pin 43 alsoserves as a stop to limit the downward movement ofthe holder 38. p The holder 38 is moved vertically by means of'a toothed wheel44 which is mounted on a pin 45 carried by the guide member 28. The teeth of 'the toothed wheel 44 cooperate with the holder 38 to move the same upward against the tension of the spring 42. A wheel 46 is secured onthe shaft 29 to rotate therewith and is provided with a pin 47 which'is adapted to engage the teeth of the wheel 44 and impart an intermittent rotary movementthereto; whereby to eifectarecip- .rocating movement of the holder 38 and the marker carried thereby. The wheel 44 maybe provided with. any number of teeth, but'one tooth as 44 is made longer than'the distance, whereby the mark made by the element 39 1s longer than the remaining marks. Thus the graduations are mdicated in groups with the result that the reading is greatly facilitated. As indicated most clearly in Fig. 6 the wheel 44 is provided with four short teeth of equal length and one long tooth, hence the graduations will have. every fifth'mark longer. than the remaining marks, 7 whereby the indications may be read quickly 1 remaining teeth. to lift the holder 38 a greater 39 may be adjusted to the work.
