Description

OR 193309002 SR J. H. PRICE.
SIGHT FOR RIFLES, PISTOLS, AND THE LIKE.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 19. 1918.
1,330,002, Patented Feb. 3, 1920.
nrr S ATES JOSEPH HENRY PRICE, OF DOLGELLEY, WALES.
SIGHT FOR RIFLES, PISTOLS, AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1920.
Application filed April 19, 1918. Serial No. 229,592.
To all whom c'zfmag concern Be it known that I, Josnrrr HENRY PRICE, a subject of His Majesty the King of England, and resident of Dolgelley, in the county of Merioneth, l/Vales, Kingdom of England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Connected with Sights for Rifles, Pistols, and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sights for rifles, pistols and the like of the kind in which the rear sight is vertically adjustable by means of cam mechanism.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a broken side elevation showing the invention applied to the barrel of a rifle;
Fig. 2 is a partly cross-sectional elevation about the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, showing the rearsight partly elevated and a view of the foresight as seen through said rearsight when the weapon is aimed;
Fig. 3 is a plan of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is an elevational view of a modified form of rearsight.
In carrying out the invention a rear or back sight (1, preferably in the form of a ring or peep-hole of large area, is adapted to be arranged on the barrel 6 of the weapon in or about the position in which the ordinary open rear sights are usually arranged and in substitution of said ordinary open rear sights. The rear sight is shown provided on an inverted U-shaped member or yoke piece 0 the two legs of which are slidably mounted in a perforated block (Z secured to the barrel or otherwise provided on the fore-end b of the stock. A stop pin 6 is provided to prevent the sight being accidentally pulled completely out of the block (Z. One of the legs of the member 0 is graduated .on its rear face as indicated at c" in Fig. 2, or on its outer face as shown 0 in Fig. 4:, and a pressure spring such as f is provided to bear upon the member 0 and retain it in its adjusted positions. The lower ends of the legs of the member a may be protected from injury, when lowered, by hollow lugs 72 formed on the fore-end b, of the stock, or by other suitable means according to the particular make of the Weapon. The foresight 9 used with the rearsight a above to automatically and accurately center the foresight on the object aimed at and permitting accurate aim to be instantly and auto-- matically taken. In the modification shown in Fig. 4: a V-shaped rearsight a is provided instead of a ring or peep-hole sight.
A finger disk It is eccentrically mounted on a pivot 2' which is fixed toor formed on the corresponding side face of the block d. The disk 72, is formed with a closed arcuate slot j which is arranged concentric to the center of the disk, or, in other words, eccentric to the axis of rotation of the disk, and engages a pin, lug or projection 70 which is formed on or secured to one of the legs of the member 0, and slides in a groove or recess Z formed in the block (Z. By turning the disk 72, anti-clockwise from the position shown in Fig. 1 the member 0 and the sight a can be moved into their lowermost positions for point blank range, and the range can be variously lengthened by turning the disk clockwise and raising the member 0 and with it the sight a.
l/Vhat I claim is A sight for firearms consisting of an attaching member fitted to the firearm and provided with vertical perforations, a bail shaped sight member having its legs fitted and adjustable in said perforations, hollow lugs to receive the lower ends of said legs when in lowered position, a pin projecting from one of said legs, a cam pivoted to the attaching member and having an arcuate slot to engage said pin to adjust the sight member, and a flat spring having one end securedj to the attaching member and its free end pressing against the sight member to retain the member in adjusted position.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name.
JOSEPH HENRY PRICE.
In presence of HENRY ATTWATER, E. J. MoDEvrr'r.
