Description

WASHING DV|CE.
APPLICAHON FILED M1646. I917.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER BECK, 0F HARVEY, ILLINOIS.
WASHING DEVICE.
Application filed August 6, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER Been, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harvey, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Washing Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of 1 his specification.
My invention relates to a washing device which will he of particular use to a person who has lost one of his hands.
The object of the invention is to provide suitable means which will readily accommodate themselves to any desired position. to thereby permit of a hand being rubbed over them in the act of washing. The means preferably used constitute a. brush, which brush is more or less yieldingly held in an adjustable clamping mechanism so that it can be moved into any desired position. The entire structure is so arranged that it may be readily mounted upon and demounted from a faucet or similar structure used in connection with a washstand or other place of water supply.
I will explain my invention more in detail by referring to the accompanying drawing illustrating the same, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of a device constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fig.3;
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device as shown in Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective View of a cleaning device such as a nail file adapted to be in-- sorted in the holder in place of the brush. In the drawing I show a faucet 10 to which my improved device is adapted for attachment. The device itself consists of two clamping plates 11 and 12 which are respectively held to ether by the bolt 13 and wing nut 14. The clamps 11 and 12 have outwardly extending jaws 15 and 16, respectively. which jaws partially encircle the faucet 10. thus to hold the device in position when pressure is applied to the wine nut 14. The upper extremities of the clamping plates 11 and 12 are each provided with a pair of jaws, the clamping plate 11 hav- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 184,615.
ing the jaws 17 and 18, and the clamping plate 12 having the jaws 19 and 20. These jaws 17, 18, 19 and 20 have universal engagement with a spherical plug 21 which forms part of aguide structure 22. It will be seen that by reason of the universal connection between the plu 21 and the socket formed by the jaws 1 18. 19 and 20, that the guide structure may occupy any desired position, the elements thus enumerated forming what might be called a ball and socket joint. The guide structure 22 has guides 23 and 24: on opposite sides thereof. between which a, washing device such as a brush 25 is slidably mounted. A thumb nut 26 passes through the guide structure 22 and may exert any desired pressure on the brush 25, even to the extent of holding the brush firmlv in position should such be desired. The device thus explained provides facilities whereby a one handed person may satisfactorily and effectively wash the hand, thereby accomplishing what would ordinarily reprising a hand brush and holder with ball con nection, a clamp having a pair f l mg elements one end of whlch encircles the igiba ll connection so as to provide a universal "jomt for the brush, the other end of the clamp operable to encircle the faucet, and a single clamping screw whereby the device may be adjusted by one hand to position and simultaneouslv fasten the clamp at both ends with the brush beneath the water spout of the faucet.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 24th day of Julv A. D. 1917.
PETER BECK. Witnesses:
