To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BERNARD LEAHY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trunk- Harness; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to trunk harness.

An important object of my invention is to provide a harness adapted for attachment to a trunk in such a manner as to permit of the more expeditious carrying of the trunk on the back.

A further object of the invention is to provide a harness adapted for attachment to a trunk or box, which is easy to apply and so constructed as to permit of its use on trunks or boxes of different sizes.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device adapted for use in connection with trunks, which will permit of the easier and more convenient handling of the trunks by virtue of the better grip afforded by the attachment.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described, which is neat in appearance, cheap to manufacture, and of highly simplified construction.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will. be apparent from the course of the following description.

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 8 de nates a trunk or box of the u ua rec tangular shape. about a portion of the body of the trunk is a rope 9, or other flexible element, having at one end thereof a chain 10. A link 11, carried by the opposite end of the rope 9, is adapted for connection with a snap hook 12,

carried by the chain 10. 'Interposed between the rope 9 and the chain 10 is a handle 18, adapted to be arranged between the ends of the trunk, as shown. A pair of sleeves slidably arranged on the rope 9 are curved inwardly on their outer surface and carry loops 15, one of said loops having secured thereto a relatively short chain 16. As clearly shown in Fig. 1, a hook 17 is carried by the upper end of the chain 16. Extending transversely of the trunk and over the edges thereof, is a second rope or flexible tying element 18, having at one end a hook 19, adapted to engage with the hook 17 carried by the chain 16, while its opposite end is secured to the loop 15 arranged on the pulley. Protectors, preferably formed of leather, designated by the numeral 20, are adapted to be slidably arranged on the ropes 18 and 9 for the purpose of protecting the edges of the trunk from contact with the rope.

It is apparent that in the use of my device it is applied to the trunk, as shown in Fig. 1, prior to the trunk being placed on the back. To permit of the use of my improved harness for trunks of different sizes the hook 19 may be engaged with the links of the chain 16, thus aii'ording means of adjusting the device.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it 1s understood that I may make such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts as will remain within the spirit of the invention and the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is:

1. A trunk harness including a strap extending around the sides and ends of a trunk, a handle connected to said strap, collars slidably arranged on said strap, a second strap connected at one end to one of said collars, a hook connected to the opposite end of the second strap, and a chain connected to the other collar and adapted for connection with said hook.
