Description

N. B. RIDDLE.
TIE PRESSER;
APPLICATION FILED APR.6. 1918.
1 325,308; 7 Patented Dec. 16, 1919.
invention consists in NAPOLEON B. RIDDLE, OF ST. FBANCISVILLE, LOUISIANA.
- TIE-PRESSER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 16, 1919.
Application filed April 6, 1918. Serial No. 227,064.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NAPOLEON B. RIDDLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Francisville, in the parish of West F e- .liciana and State of- Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tie-Pressers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements 1n tie pressers.
The object of this invention is to improve the construction of tie pressers so that ties may have their tying ends pressed to re-' move the wrinkles.
\Vith this and other objects in view, the the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and set forth in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tie press made in accordance with this invention: a
Flg. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view taken through the same,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view line 33 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 5 designates the press in its entirety and it includes a pair of clamping members designated 6 and 7 respectively. Each clamping member is formed of wood or any other suitable material for the purpose and is substantially rectangular in cross section and has one end tapered. The tapered ends of the members 6 and 7 are hingedly connected together by a suitable hinge 8 as at 9 and one'leaf of this hinge is provided with a supporting hook 10. The clamping memher 6 is provided adjacent its reduced end and centrally of its side longitudinal edges with a transverse slot 11 through which the string end of the tie designated A in the drawing is adapted to extend, thus positioning the tying end of the tie between the opposing faces of the clamping members 6 and 7 so that the wrinkles may be readily removed therefrom by the clamping members.
taken on the i 16 and The member 6 is also provided adjacent its lower end with an inverted U-shaped member 12 connected to the clamp as indicated at 13. The web portion of the U- shaped member provides a supporting rail upon which a plurality of ties may be suspended after they have been pressed between the clamping members. A substantially U-shaped locking band 14: has the terminals of its arms bent inwardly in the direction of each other as at 15 to provide retaining flanges thus permitting the U-shaped member to be slid upon the clamping members 6 and 7 to retain them in abutting enga ement. The medial portion of the web of 5a locking member 14 is ofiset outwardly as at is provided with a screw threaded opening in which a screw threaded bolt 17 is adapted to extend. The head of the screw threaded bolt is serrated or roughened as at 13 to permitit to be readily manipulated by the fingers of the operator, so that when the locking member is positioned about the clamping members 6 and 7 the bolt may be urged into engagement with the exterior of the clamping member 6 drawing the boards into facial engagement with one another for pressin' the tying end of the tie located between t e opposite faces.
In use when it is desired to use the tie press, it is only necessary to remove the locking band 1 1 by releasing the pressure of the screw 17 from the member 6, forcing the same upwardly ofi'of the reduced ends of the clamping members 6 and 7. The members are opened in the usual manner, the string end of the tieis inserted throu h the opening 11, positioning the tying en of the tie between the clamping members. The clamping members are then urged into engagement with one another, the locking band re placed over the reduced ends and urged toward the enlarged ends thereof, the screw 17 tightened until the clamping members are bound into tight engagement with one another thus removing the wrinkles from the tying end of the tie located between the opposing faces and the tie can remain therein until all the wrinkles have been removed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A tie press including a pair of coacting hingedly connected clamping members having one oftheir end portions reduced, one
of said clamping members being provided with a transverse hole through which to pass a tie, a locking band slidably and removably arranged on said clamping members and provided with a central ofiset portion, said offset portion being provided with a screw threaded opening, and a 10cking screw extended through said opening and engaging one of the clamping members for bringing the clamping members to- 10 gether.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
NAPOLEON B. RIDDLE.
W'itnesses:
SAM STERN,
F. C. \VEYDERT.
