Description

n. c. LAwsc-m HOOK APPLICATION FILED OCT. 12.1916.
1 25,202. Patented Dec. 16, 1919.
UNITED STATES PATENT onrron.
DEAN C. LAWSON, OF EAST ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
V HOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dec; 16, 1919.
Original application filed February 23, 1915, Serial No. 10,127. Divided and this application filed October 12, 1916. Serial No. 125,318.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DEAN C. Lawson, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hooks, of which .the following is a specification.
This application is a division of my previous application No. 10127 filed February 23rd, 1915.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved form of combination coat and hat hook.
This and other objects of the invention will be fully illustrated in the drawings, described in the specification and pointed out in the claims at the end thereof.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of one of my improved hooks. I
Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views of modifications of the end of the hook.
In the accompanying drawings like reference numerals indicate like parts.
As shown in Fig. 1, the hook is made preferably as a casting having a back 1 with a screw shank 2 by which it is adapted to engage the wall. It also comprises the downwardly and outwardly curved portions 3 on which coats may be hung and the upwardly and downwardly curved portion 4 which is intended to hold hats suspended therefrom.
the hat will hang suspended therefrom.
The lower end of the spring 5 is turned up to form a handle by which it may be moved.
The rentrant angle may also be formed with a pivot joint 7 in which is suspended a dog 8 which is pressed forwardly by the spring 9 so that the forward end 10 of the dog will press against the downwardly turned end 11 of the hook. The rear end 12 of the dog serves as a handle by which it may be drawn backward.
The spring clamp may be fastened on the outside of the downwardly turned end of the hook, 1n whichfca'se 1t -Wlll consist of the 'clamping plate 13, pivoted at 14L, pressed downwardly at the upper end by the spring 15 and bearing against the downturned end 16 at the bottom thereof so that between the plate 13 and the downturned end 16 the rim of the hat may be clamped and the hat sus pended thereby.
It will also be noticed that the down- In Fig. 2 this clearance is provided in the shape of the clamping device which bears against a straight downwardly turned end. The hook is used to suspend a hat by drawing the clamping device back and inserting the rim of the hat and then releasing the clamping device which will thenengage the rim and hold the hat suspended;
I claim- 1. A-hook having a shank curved upwardly and outwardly, the tip of which is bent upwardly and downwardly, a spring pressed clamping device fastened on the under side of the tip and pressing forward against the downturned end of the tip, the tip of said hook having a rounded surface on the top thereof. 7
2. A hook having a shank curved upwardly and outwardly, the tip of which is bent upwardly and downwardly, a spring pressed clamping device fastened on the under side of the tip and pressing forward against the downturned end of the tip, said downturned end of the tip being bowed outwardly away from said clamping device above the lower end thereof.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of a witness.
DEAN o. LAWSON.
