To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AAGE E. J ORGENSEN, a subject of the King of Denmark, residing at Eureka, in the county of Humboldt and State of California, have inventedycertain new and useful Improvements in Toys;- and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Thisinvention relates to toys and the primary object of the invention is to-provide an improved toy, which is so constructed as to simulate the appearance of a horse, and can be propelled over the ground in a manner similar to the'ordinary childs velocipede.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved toy vehicle constructed, so as to simulate the appearance of a horse, having an improved'means for guiding the same.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved toy of the above character, in which the forward and rear portions of the device are made in two sections, which are pivotally connected together, so that the front section can be swung, so as to steer the vehicle over the ground.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved means for connecting the two sections together, so as to provide an exceedingly strong and durable device.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved toy vehicle of the above character, which is durable and eflicient in use, one that is simple and cheap to manufacture, and one that can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which:

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 generally indicates the improved toy horse, preferably constructed of wood, and includes a body 2 composed of a pair of sections 8 and 4 which are preferably made from a single piece of material. The front section 3 is provided with an upwardly extending extension 6, which is suitably carved to form The front legs 9 and 10 are secured to the forward portion of the front section 3 and the lower ends of the legs are apertured to receive the crank sections 11 and 12, which have the inner ends thereof provided with disks 13 which are secured to opposite sides of the front wheel 14, by means of screws or the like. The front steering wheel 14, is positioned between the front legs 9 and 10. Suitable pedals 17 are secured to the outer free ends of the crank sections 11 and 12. Rear legs 18 and 19 are secured to the rear portion of the section 4 and the lower ends thereof are received in notches 20 formed in the axle 21, the terminals of which carry stub axles 22, on which the rear wheels 23 are mounted. The rear legs are preferably glued in position in the notches 20 and further held by screws 24, which extend through the axle 21 and into the legs. A fiat plate 25 is fitted in a notched portion in the upper face of the body section 4, and this plate extends beyond the sides of the section and forms a saddle or seat for the rider. The forward portion of the plate is preferably reduced as at 26 and is extended over the front section 3, the neck portion 6 of which is notched as at 27 to receive the same. A plate 28, preferably of the same width, as the sections 3 and 4, is secured to the lower edge of the rear section 4 by means of screws or other fastening elements 29 and extends forwardly and engages the lower edge of section 3. through the plate 28 and the reduced extension of the saddle and are threaded into the section 3. The portions of the screws 30 adjacent the heads thereof are smooth so that the screws can readily r0- tate in the plates 28 and 30. This allows the section 3 to be readily turned with relation to section 4:, so as to steer the velocipede in the desired direction. This construction permits of, the ready turning of the front section and forms an exceedingly strong and durable structure.

Outwardly extending handles 32 are carried by the upper portion of the neck 7 and form means whereby the rider may readily turn the front section of the vehicle.

In practice, I have found that the form of my invention illustrated in the accom-V panying drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most efficient and practical; yet realizing the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, Idesire to emphasize that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required without sacrificing Copies of this patent may be obtained for any of the advantages of my invention as' set forth.

That I claim as new is:

A toy horse comprising 'a body formed, of a front and a rear section, the rear section having a notched portion in the upper edge thereof, a flat horizontal plate fitted in the notched portion in the rear section and eX- tending toward and engaging the front sec tion, said plate constituting a. seat, a lower plate carried by the rear section and projecting toward and engaging the lower surface of the front section, pivot pins extending through the plates and into the front section, front legs carried by the front section'and constituting a support, a wheel in the support, treadles for the wheel, handles carried by the front sections, rear legs secured to the rear section, and wheels carriedvby the rear legs, as and for the purpose specified.
