I EUGENE I-I. OSBORNE, 0F SRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
PERCOLATOIR Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 4c, 1919.
Applicatpn filed May 10, 1919. Serial No. 296,252.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, EUGENE I-I. OsBoRNE, citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Percolato'rs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to percolators and especially to the type used for preparing beverages such as tea, coffee and other drinks. It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide a simple, practicable, eflicient and inexpensive form of percolating device and it is an especial object of the invention to provide a percolator which can be compactly folded so that it may be readily carried in the service kit of luncheon, automobile or boating parties or in camp outfits and obviously in various other organizations and a further object is to provide a device of this character which will enable the preparation of the beverage either by the use of the percolator directly in or above the receptacle as a cup, glass or the like or the percolator can be held by and above a cooking utensil or placed therein to remain without attention such time as may be required. Another object of the invention is to provide a percolator comprising relatively and readily separable holder and bag elements so as to enable the efficient and thorough cleaning of the bag and the reuse of the same.
With the above and other objects in view as will be readily manifest to those versed in the subject the invention consists of the construction, the combination, and in details and elements of the parts as more particularly described in the following specication `relative to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the wire frame or bag holder.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the detached bag.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the percolator showing the parts assembled and held above a cup showing the use of the percolator in making the beverage directly in the cup, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the percolator as held above a cooking utensil.
The percolator comprises a bag 2, preferably of pliant material and of suitable depth and diameter the mouth of the bag being provided with a hem 3 which is divided at 4L to provide openings 5 5 into the adjacent ends of the hem 3. This bag is adapted to be readily mounted upon the holder or frame which comprises preferably an integral piece of resilient wire havin a divided or sepa'- rated ring 6 and a latera ly extending handle portion 7. In one form of the holder as shown in the present case the ring has one side bent outwardly to form a bar or handle 7 which is turned into a spring coil 8 from which is extended a' substantially parallel handle, bar or portion 9 having an upturned eye 10 designed to interlock with a comple mentary eye or hook 1l formed on the adjacent end of the ring 6. In Fig. 1 the holder is shown detached from the bag and the parts are readily assembled by passing one open end of the hem 3 onto the hook end 11 of the ring and then gradually working the bag around the ring until the ends or mouths 5 of the hem are brought to the position shown in Fig. 3. Conversely, the bag is removed by a reversal of the movement, thus enabling it to be kept in a thoroughly sanitary and clean condition and the bitter and undesirable flavors are thus elimi* nated where it would not be possible if the bag was constantly reused in the preparation of the beverage and the acids or coffee tannin or ca ffein were not removed by washing.
As clearly shown the percolator can be held in the hand either over a cup or other receptacle for immediate use or if desired it can be held in position over a cooking utensil either by hand or it can be rested in position thereon to remain any desired time.
What I claim isl. In a percolator, a bag, a holder comprising a circular member, a handle, a hook in said circular member, and an eye in said handle for engaging said hook.
2. In a' percolator, a holder comprising a circular member, a spring handle, an eye in said handle, and a hook in said circular member to engage said handle.
3. In a percolator, a holder comprising a' circular member, a spring handle, and a hook and eye engagement of said handle and Circular member.
4. In 2L percolator, a: holder comprising a wire bent n circular form and 'having a hook n one end on said erele and extended ra.-
dztlly into ay handle having an erm to el'lgage Copies of this patent' may be obtained for spring at the end of Said handle, en eye '1n said handle, and a' hook n said circular. member to encrage said eye.
6. In e. pereoletor, a holder comprising a. circular member, 2L spring handle, one side of said handle being zt radial extension of seid circular member, and a hook and eye engagement of sind handle and circuler member adjacent Sand handle.
` In testlmonv whereof l afix my slgnature.
EUGENE H. OSBORNE.
