7 0 all whom it may concern Be t known that I, Mose BRUYERE, a cltizen of the United States, residlng at Gl'GGll Bay, in the county of Brown, State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Crutch and Cushion-Tip Therefor; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to crutches, and particularly to an improved cushion tip for the lower end of the crutch, and one of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple, efficient and practical device of this kind, which may be manufactured at a small cost and sold at a reasonable profit.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a sleeve and slotted guides for a thimble tip, which is spring tensioned, the slotted guide acting to reinforce and prevent the thimble tip from rotating, while the sleeve guide (which is spaced from the adjacent ends of the side bowed bars of the crutch) additionally reinforces the thimble tip.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a rubber cap to the lower end of the thimble tip.

In practical fields the details of'construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.

The invention comprises further features and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, and claimed.

Referring more especially to the drawings 1 and 2 designate the bowed side bars of the crutch, to the upper ends of which the armpit head 3 is attached in any suitable manner. andof the samelength, and since the parts 9 are in parallelism and secured together and being semi-circular, it is to be noted that the outer circumference of the lower end of the crutch is cylindrical. A sleeve 11 is fitted upon the adjacent end parts 9, and secured thereto by the headed transverse pin 12, which passes through the contracted part 13 of the sleeve and assists in additionally securing the end parts 9 together. The enlarged part 14 of the sleeve 11 is spaced from the exterior cylindrical surface of the lower ends of the crutch bars thereby providing a guide space 15 for the tip thimble 16, which telescopes into the sleeve 11 and over the lower ends of the crutch bars. A transverse headed pin 17 extends transversely of the slots 10, normally engaging the lower ends of said slots, while the headed ends 18 are secured as shown in diametrically opposite portions of the tip thimble. By means of the pin 17 downward detaching of the tip thimble is prevented, as well as preventing rotation of the tip thimble relative to the lower end of the crutch. The transverse pin 17 also guides and reinforces the tip thimble. The sleeve 11 assists in guiding and reinforcing the thimble 16. A coil spring 19 is interposed between the lower end 20 of the thimble 16, and the lower end of the crutch and located within the thimble, thereby holding the thimble normally extended. The lower part of the thimble 16 terminates in a heavy solid portion 21, constituting a crutch foot. which is of a tapered shape such as indicated at 22, and is designed to wear a rubber shoe cap 23, the upper outwardly flared portion 2 1 of the wall 25 of which engages the curved shoulder 26, which is adjacent the foot of the thimble 16. By means of this shape of foot the rubber cap shoe is retained in place on the foot, and constitutes means to prevent slipping of the crutch. The coil spring 19 acts to cushion the crutch, when the shoe is applied to the ground or pavement, thereby relieving the jar on the shoulders of the user.
