PARACHUTE FOR ILLUMINATING-BODIES.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH FUSS, residing at Bredeney, Germany, a citizen of the German Empire, have invented. a certain new and useful Improvement in Parachutes .for Illuminating- Bodies, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a parachute for illuminating bodies, which are inthe linen pieces abut, the hood A is reinforced by sewn on strips: a of the same material. Through the strips (1 a a m are drawn steel wire ropes B B B which are knotted together. The wire ropes B, which are drawn through the strips a are extended and serve simultaneously for connecting the carrying hood A with the body C containing the illuminating material to which the ropes are attached by means of a loop 0 see Fig. 1.
When the illuminating body is in the projectile, the parachute is compactly packed in the projectile body. During the flight of the projectile, the illuminating material of the illuminating body becomes ignited and the parachute with the illuminating body I shot out or liberated by a charge in the projectile. As soon as the illuminating body has left the projectile housing, the air resistance acts on the parachute so that it will be unfolded and the illuminating body slowly descends to earth while its illuminating material is burning.
On account of the described construction of the wire ropes B B B the parachute possesses considerable strength. This circumstance is of the greatest importance, because of the diminished speed of flight of the,

By this arrangement of the wire ropes is moreover attained that the parachute with certainty unfolds to the required shape, as the elasticity of the Wire ropes comes into action, directly after the release'of the parachute, which had been compactly packed in the body of the projectile, thus causing the uniform swelling of the parachute.
I claim:
1. A parachute for illuminating bodies comprising a carrying hood, reinforcing elastic wires for the hood and supporting wires for suspending said illuminating body from said hood said reinforcing wires crossing each other at a plurality of places in the hood.
2. A parachute for illuminating bodies comprising a carrying hood, reinforcing.
elastic metallic wires for the hood and supportingmetallic wires for suspending said illuminating body from said hood said reinforcing wires crossing each other at a plurality of places in the hood and being knotted at the intersections.
3. A parachute for illuminating bodies comprising a carrying hood, reinforcing elastic wires for the hood and supporting wires for suspending said illuminating body from said hood, said supporting wires running radially from the center of the hood to its edge, their free ends continuing from the edge of the illuminating body, said reinforcing wires and said supporting wires intersecting and running in and out through the material of the hood.
4. A parachute for illuminating bodies comprising a carrying hood, reinforcing elastic Wires for the hood and supporting wires for suspending said illuminating body from said hood, said reinforcing Wires forming a plurality of concentric rings of different size running in and out through the material of the hood.
