UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES COHAN, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE HERSCHEDE HALL CLOCK COMPANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
CLOCK-FACE-MOUNTING MEANS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 0a. 21, 1919.
Application filed May 13, 1918. Serial No. 234,044.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES CoHAN, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clock- Face-Mounting Means, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved. means of mounting clock faces upon a clock 'works, wherein an object is to mount the face in a manner such that relative motion between the face and the clock works is positively prevented and wherein means are provided for quick detachment from and attachment to a clock works.
These and other objects are attained in the clock face mounting means described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a composite viewof the rear of a clock face and the front of a clock works having elements of the mounting means embodying my invention, mounted thereon.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the mounting means embodying my invention.
My improved face mounting means consists of a series of sockets 3, one of which is preferably mounted at each corner of the front plate of the clock works, and a series of pins 4, one of which is mounted at each corner of the clock face in position to be received by the cooperating one of the sockets 3.
Each of the sockets consists of a cylindrical body 5 having a recess 6 therein, a latch pin 7 extending into the recess, a spring 8 carrying the latch pin, and a knob 9 mounted on the spring and adapted to facilitate withdrawal of the latch pin from the recess. A screw 10 and washer 11 are provided for attaching the body to the front plate in the manner shown in Fig. 2.
Each of the pins 4 is provided with a base 12 which may be attached to therear surface of the clock face in a suitable manner, and a pointed end 13, back of which a. groove 14 is, located. The inner end of the latch pin is beveled as shown in Fig. 2 to permit the tapered end of pin 4 to pass it, the groove being located in position to receive the latch pin when the pin 4 is pushed into the recess 6.
In mounting the face in position it is but necessary to push the face lugs into position within the recesses of the socket until the latch pins engage the grooves. This looks the face in position with relation to the clock works.
In removing the face it is only necessary to Withdraw the latchpins so that the pins 4 may be freed and the face thus permitted to be removed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is;
A clock face mounting means consisting of a series of sockets projecting forward from the front plate of a clock works, a series of spring pins mounted upon the sockets, a series of grooved pins projecting inward from the rear face of a clock face and in register with the sockets, and whose grooves are adapted to engage the pins when the pins are pushed into the sockets, whereby the face will be retained in position with relation to the works.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name this 9th day of May,
CHARLES COHAN. Witnesses:
W. THORNTON Boonn'r, WALTER F. MURRAY.
copiel of this patent may be obtained for live cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. 0.
