Be it known that I, STEWART R. MGKAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and Stat-e of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Concrete-Forms, of which the following is a full, clear, and
exact description.
This invention relates to forms which are employed for the purpose of molding` concrete material, the invention shown herein being' illustrated in connection with the construction of a wall, such as may be employed in the erection of buildings. The invention relates more particularly to the construction and arrangement of the posts, panels and fastening means )whereby the panels may be conveniently applied to and removed from the posts and may be eiiiciently retained 1n operative relation to the work during the molding operation. j
The invention herein disclosed is a division of my application No. 33798 filed June 12, 1915.
In the drawings forming part hereof, Figure 1 represents a sectional detail in perspective of a post, a pair of panels and the clamping means employed for securing the latter to the posts; Fig. 2 an elevation, with parts broken away, of the construction shown in Fig, 1; Fig. 3 a sectional plan view of the construction shown in Figs l and 2; and Fig. 4l a plan view of a portion of a mold embodying my invention.
Describing by reference characters the various parts illustrated herein, 11 denotes generally one of the posts. Each post is preferably of pressed metal and comprises a hollov7 channel shaped body having tapered side flanges 11a provided with laterally eX- tending` lianges 11 to which there is secured, in any convenient manner a plate 11C, the lateral edges of said plate and the Vflanges 11b forming lips or stop projections adapted to cooperate with the panels in a manner to be described hereinafter. The side flanges 11il merge with inwardly projecting shoulders 11d from the proximate edges whereof there extends a Ussliaped projection 11e. To strengthen the post, the plate llf is fitted between the rear ends of the flanges 11a and is secured in place in any suitable manner to the shoulders or flanges 11d.
The projection 11e is provided with a suit- `body or filler 3a 11?. Each block 12 is pivoted to the stud 13, and the twoclamping blocks are preferably supported from this stud in the saine manner as the leaves of a butt hinge, as indicated at 12a.` It is intended that the blocks 12 shall swing upward out of the way to permit the application of the panels to the flanges 11b and then be swung downwardly to hold the panels in place. Thisaction is permitted by slotting the sides of the post extension 119.1 As will be evident from Figs. 1 and 2,-these slots (indicated at 11g) extend upwardly and downwardly from the pivotal support for the clamping blocks and are preferably beveled at their upper ends, as indicated at 111?, to permit the blocks to be swung entirely clear of the panels.
`Cooperating `with the posts are the panels, indicated generally at 3. Each panel, as illustrated, consists generally of a wooden havig at each lateral end thereof a tongue 3b with a shoulder 3C eX- tending in opposite directions from said tongue. Each panel is shown as provided with a metal sheathing 3d which covers both sides and the lateral ends thereof, conforming to the tongues 3b and shoulders 3.
With the parts constructed and illustrated as described, the posts will be set up and may .be supported in spaced relation by means of ranger rods, such for instance as shown in my application No. 672,648 filed Nov. 17, 1914. When it is desired to apply a panel between a pair of posts, the blocks 12 are folded up on their pivots and the panel applied between the posts with the sides of the tongues seated against the anges 111. The blocks are then swung downwardly upon their pivots, engaging' the rear or outer sides of the tongues 3b and thus holding the panels to their seats and in operative relation to the work, with the inner or rear faces of the panels and the inner or rear faces of the posts in substantially the same plane. When it is desired to remove the panels, it is necessary only to swing the clamping blocks 12 upwardly on their pivots, whereupon the the combination, with a pair of spaced posts each having a rearwardly extending stud and a seatv between said stud and the for- -ward or work-facing side thereof, ofl a clamping member pivoted to each stud and adapted to swing in a planelongitudinal of said post, and a panel adapted to be interposed between said posts and having a lateral extension at each end and between the inner and the outer face thereof adapted to beengaged on one side by the sea-t and on its opposite side by the coperating clamping member.
2. In'. a form of the character described, the combination, with a pair of spaced posts each having a: stud, of a pair of oppositely extendingv clamping members independently pivoted to each stud and adapted to swing in a plane longitudinal of said post, and a panel adapted to be interposed between said posts and to be engaged by the clamping member adjacent thereto.
