SINK ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED mac. m. was.

SINK ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 14, 1918. Serial No. 266,723.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JULIA E. ZBOYAN, acitizen of the United States, residing at Lyons, in the county of Somersetand State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sink Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledsin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. I
My invention relates to improvements in sink attachments.
An important object of this invention is to provide a sink attachment adapted to be arranged in the drainage pipe of a sink for effectively collecting all refuse from the sink and in such manner as to permit of the ready removal of the same.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for conveniently closing the drainage pipe of a sink or basin for permitting of the use of the sink as a receptacle for washing clothes and so forth.
A further object of the invention is to provide novel means for supporting a garbage receptacle above'the drainage pipe of a sink, thereby permitting of all drainage from the garbage receptacle to fall directly into the drainage pipe.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described which is easy to pply to sinks of standard construction and is of highly simplified construction.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following-description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through my improved sink attachment, showing the same arranged in the drainage pipe of a sink,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a garbage receptacle embodied in the invention showing the same supporting a closure for the sink,
Fig. 3 is a vertical section through a strainer element embodied in the invention,
and,
Fig. 4 is a vertical section through an annular supporting flange embodied in the invention.
In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 designates a sink of the usual type and having connection with a drainage pipe 11. An
bottom of the sink 10 and is disposed within the drainage pipe 11. A strainer element generlcally designated by the numeral 13 is disposed within the drainage pipe 11 and is connected with the annular flange 12 through the medium of a second L-shaped flange 14.
The L-shaped flange 14 is eXteriorly screw threaded at its lower portion thereof and has engagement with an annular rim 15 carried by the upper portion of the strainer element. It is thus apparent that the strainer element 13 may readily beremoved from the remainder of the structure when desired. The.
strainer element 13 is provided with. an imperforate bottom 16 adapted to collect all fine particles of refuse and prevent the same from sifting through the screening .in the body portion of the strainer element. The upper portion of the annular flange 14 is provided with an annular rim 17 having exterior screw threads engaging the interior screw threads of the annular flange 12. Handles 18 are secured to the annular rim 17 for removing the strainer element 13. A second strainer element generically designated by the numeral 19 is adapted to be arranged in the upper poi-ton of the annular flange 14 and partakes of threaded engagement with the annular rim 17 carried thereby. The strainer element 19 is provided with an annular rim 20 having threaded engagement with the interior of the annular rim 17. A circular piece of mesh wire 21 is arranged in the strainer element 19. A bar or relatively short rod 22 traverses the strainer element and is secured thereto for facilitating the removal of the strainer element 19.
A garbage receptacle 23, clearly shown in Fig. 2, is adapted to be arranged within the upper portion of the annular flange 14 and is provided with a rim 24 having threaded engagement with the annular rim 17 The garbage receptacle 23 is provided with a body portion of mesh wire 25. A rectangular band 26 is secured to the upper portion of the mesh wire 25. As illustrated in Fig. 1,the interior of the receptacle 23 is provided with an annular rim 27 disposed in a horizontal plane with the rim 24. The rim 27 has threaded engagement with a closure 28. The closure 28 is provided with a han- Patented Aug 12, 1919.
L-shaped annular flange 12 is carried by the dle 29. It will be apparent that when it is desired to close the sink to function as a wash-tub or the like, the closure 28 may be arranged in position to prevent the discharge of the water from the sink. An arm or T-shaped bracket is carried by the rectangular rim 26 for supporting the closure 28.
In the use of my invention, it will be apparent that as many of the elements as may be desired may be used at one time. For instance, it may be apparent that the strainer element 13 may be readily removed or if desired, the strainer element 19 may be removed. If it is not desired to use the garbage receptacle 23 in conjunction with the remainder of the device, the same may be readily removed.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understood that I may make such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts, as will remain within the spirit of the invention, and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. The combination with a sink having a drainage pipe; an L-shaped annular flange arranged Within the drainage pipe; a strainer element arranged within the drainage pipe and having an annular flange having screw threaded engagement with said first named annular flange; a second strainer element arranged within the drainage pipe and having screw threaded engagement with the annular flange of said first named strainer element, a garbage receptacle carried by the annular flange of said strainer element; and a closure arranged within the garbage receptacle.
2. A device of the character described comprising, a strainer element adapted to be arranged within the drainage pipe of a sink, said strainer element having an imperiorate bottom and a body portion of mesh wire; an annular flange rranged within the drainage pipe of the sink and having screw threaded engagement with an annular flange of said strainer element, a garbage receptacle having screw threaded engagement with the second named annular flange; and a closure arranged within the garbage receptacle.
3. A device of the character described comprising, a cylindrical strainer element adapted to be arranged within the drainage pipe of a sink, said strainer element having an annular flange connected with the upper end thereof; a second annular flange having screw threaded engagement with the annular flange of said strainer element; a second strainer element having screw threaded engagement with the second named annular flange; and a garbage receptacle having screw threaded engagement with the second named annular flange.
In testimony whereof I aflix my ignature in presence of two witnesses.
JULIA E. ZBOYAN.
