DEOD ORIZER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERT W. F LANDERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New London, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Deodorizers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to deodorizers or air purifiers in which a suitable disinfectant or deodorant is contained in a receptacle from which it is fed to the atmosphere for the purpose of purifying the latter.
In this class of device when used in theaters and public halls or other places of amusement, the device may be placed in the path of a current of air furnished from a fan or blower, so that the contents of the receptacle will be distributed throughout the hall or auditorium. This device works well during the summer months, but owing to the excessive heat to which the device is subject during the Winter months, the liquid frequently reaches a boiling point. This causes rapid evaporation and has a tendency to change the odor of the liquid, rendering the device expensive in operation and unsatisfactory in results.
For the purpose of overcoming these dis advantages the present invention compre hends the provision of an insulator which surrounds the receptacle and which may be in the form of a vacuum chamber or any other suitable insulating means, such as an asbestos covering, mineral Wool packing or the like.
The present invention is designed as an improvement on an application filed by me October 6, 1917, Serial No. 195,144, which application is at present pending and the improvement will be herein described in connection with the subject matter shown in the said application, although it is apparout that the devices of different structure may be substituted, the present invention as above stated covering the conservation of the contents of the device through suitable insulation.

vention includes a receptacle comprising outer and inner walls 10 and 11, the said walls being suitably spaced apart to pro vide a vacuum space or chamber 12.
The inner wall forms a receptacle for a suitable dcodorizer or disinfectant and is provided with a longitudinally disposed slot 13, which is alincd with a slot 14.- formed in the outer wall 11, the edges of these slots being connected by walls 15, which form a passage 16. A suitable filling opening 17 communicates with the interior of the recep tacle and is closed by a ca 18.
As in the before mentioned application there is provided a frame which includes channeled side 'bars 19 and a yoke 20, the side arms of the latter passing through the channel bars 19 and the frame inserted through the passage 16 after the manner of the frame described in connection with my co-pcnding application. Stops 21 extending inwardly from the bottom of the receptacle are located for contact with the yoke 20, while springs 22 carried by the outer wall of the receptacle bear against the side bars 19 to hold the yoke 20 in such contact.
Located within the frame just described is a folder 23 composed of two leaves of reticulated metal, for example wire gauze, these leaves being united at their outer edges as by bending and their size being such as to fill the space between the bar 19 with their edges within the channels of the latter. lVithin this folder is positioned a wick- 24 of any suitable fabric, preferably cheese cloth or other soft and porous material, the wick being of sufficient length to extend within the receptacle and into the liquid contained therein.
As previously pointed out the novelty of the invention resides in a protecting insulation for the contents of the receptacle, which in the present instance is shown in the form of the chamber 12. The outer wall 10 of this chamber is equipped with a vacuum valve 25, by means of which the air may be exhausted from the chamber. Supporting legs 26 ar also secured to the outer wall of the chamber 12 which permits of the device being placed upon the floor of ducts or conduits, so that the air will pass through the wick and distribute the contents of the re ceptacle.
It is believed that the foregoing descrip tion when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, will render the construction, operation and advantages of the invention apparent. The right is reserved to make any and all changes as will properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. The herein described deodorizer comprising a horizontally disposed tank or receptacle, an insulating wall surrounding said receptacle, said wall being formed with a longitudinally disposed slot establishing communication between the interior'of the receptacle and the atmosphere, and means extendingthrough said slot for feeding the contents of the receptacle to the atmosphere.
The herein described deodorizer'comprising a horizontally disposed tank or receptacle, an insulating chamber surrounding said receptacle, a assage extending longitudinally of the receptacle through said chamher to establish communication between the interior of the receptacle and the atmosformed with longitudinally extending registering slots, a wall connecting said slots and defining a longitudinally extending passage establishing communication between the interior of'the receptacle and the atmosphere and means extending through said passage for feeding the contents of the receptacle to the atmosphere.
