Nuts 20 are mounted upon the shank 19 and engage againstthelrear or inner ends of the headsti for drawing thebloeks: 16 into the recesses 15 to securely clamp a cutter ori knife in each of the recesses.
The sleeve 3 which ismforlned upon the main body 2 of the cutter head is provided with i an angular channel 21 which receives therein: set or lockscrews 22. The set or lock screwsQQextend through the threaded sleeve 23, connecting this sleeve against longitudinal movement upon the sleeve 3. The outer th'readed surface of the sleeve 23 engages in the threaded bore 24 of the knife carrying block adjusting head 25. The head 25 comprises a disk like body 26 having a plurality of substantially triangular shaped lugs 27 formed thereon at spaced intervals. The altitude or inclined sides of these substantially right angularly triangled lugs 27 'is positioned outwardly and their apexes are adapted for engagement between the rounded inner lower edges 28 of the knife carrying blocks 6 so that when the adjusting member 25 is moved along the threaded sleeve 23, in the direction indicated by the arrow A in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the lugs will be wedged or forced beneath the blocks 6 rocking the blocks upon engagement between the blocks and the ribs 10, causing the blocks to be projected at various angles to the longitudinal axis of the cutter head for cutting surfaces of various beveled angles on the article being worked upon. Thus by moving the head 25 longitudinally along the threaded sleeve 23, the blocks 6 may be forced outwardly at greater angles to the axis of the head or allowed to move inwardly for decreasing the angle of the knife carried by the blocks with respect to the axis of rotation of the head and if the lugs 27 are withdrawn completely from beneath the inner flat surfaces of the blocks 6, a square surface may be cut on the artlcle being worked upon.
Changes in detail may be made without departing from the spirit of this invention, but; I
I claim:
1. In a rotary cutter head, the combination, of a body provided with a plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses, a plurality of knife carrying blocks pivotally seated in said recesses, means for adjusting the longitudinal angle of said block, comprising substantially triangularly shaped lugs for engagement with the inner surface of the block and for facial engagement with the inner wall of the recess to provide a firm support for the blocks.
2. In a rotary cutter head, the combination, ofa body provided with a plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses, a plurality of knife carrying blocks pivotally seated in said recesses, a sleeve formed upon said body, a threaded sleeve carried by said first sleeve, a head adjustably carried by said threaded sleeve, substantially triangularly shaped lugs carried by'said head for engagement with the inner surfaces of the blocks and for facial engagement with the inner walls of the recess to provide a firm support for the block.
3. In a rotary cutter head, thecombination, of a main body provided with a plurality of recesses extendinginwardly from the periphery of the body, ribs formed upon said body and presenting inclined surfaces into said recesses, knife carrying blocks positioned in said recesses and having their inner forward corners cut away to fit said ribs and permit limited pivotal movement of the block with respect to said head.
4. In a rotary cutter head, the combination of a main body provided with a plurality of recesses extending inwardly from the periphery of the body, ribs formed upon said body and presenting inclined surfaces into said recesses, knife carrying blocks positioned in said recesses and having their inner forward corners cut away to fit said ribs and permit limited pivotal movement of the block with respect to said head, and means adjustably carried by said body and adapted to engage beneath the blocks at their ends opposite said out out portion to vary the angle of the outer surfaces of the block with respect to the axis of rotation of the cutter head.
5. In a rotary cutter head, the combination, of a main body provided with a plurality of recesses extending inwardly from the periphery of the body, ribs formed upon said body and presenting inclined surfaces into said recesses, knife carrying blocks positioned in said recesses, and having their inner forward corners cut awav to fit said ribs and permit limited pivotal movement of the block with respect to said head, means adjustably carried by said body and adapted to engage beneath the blocks at their ends opposite said out out portion to vary the angle of the outer surfaces of the block with respect to the axis of rotation of the cutter head, wedge members positioned in said recesses and engaging one upon each side of one of said blocks, threaded shanks formed upon said wedge member, nuts mounted upon said threaded shank and adapted for engagement with main body to force said wedge member against the adjacent side of said knife carrying blocks.
6. In a rotary cutter head, the combinatlon, of a main body provided with a plurality of recesses extending inwardly from the periphery thereof, a plurality of knife carrying blocks mounted in said recesses and adapted for pivotal movement with respect to the main body, a threaded sleeve formed upon said main body, a head adjustably carried by said sleeve, lugs formed upon said disk and adapted to engage beneath said knife carrying blocks to pivotally move the blocks to vary the angle of the outer surfaces of the blocks with respect to the axis of rotation of the head.
7 In a rotary cutter head, the combination, of a main supporting body provided with a plurality of recesses extending inwardly from the periphery thereof, knife carrying blocks mounted in said recesses,
means for preventing longitudinal move ment of said blocks within said recesses, a sleeve formed upon said main body, an adjusting head carried by said sleeve, a plurality of lugs carried by said adjusting head and adapted to engage beneathsaid knife carrying blocks to move the blocks in said recesses to vary the angle of the outer surfaces of the blocks with respect to the axis of rotation of the head.
8. In a rotary cutter head, the combination, of a main body, provided with a plurality of recesses extending inwardly from the periphery of the body, ribs extending across the outer ends of said body and having their inner edges beveled, knife carry ing blocks mounted in said recesses and having their outer lower corners cut away to receive said ribs and permit limited pivotal movement of the blocks with respect to the body, a sleeve formed upon said body, an adjusting head adjustably carried by said sleeve, substantially triangularly shaped lugs formed upon said adjusting head and adapted to engage beneath the inner surfaces of said knife carrying blocks to pivotally move the bloekwithin said recesses.
9. Ina rotary cutter head, the combination, of a main body, provided with a plurality of recesses extending inwardly from the periphery of the body. ribs extending across the outer ends of said bodv and having their inner edges beveled, knife carrying blocks mounted in said recesses, and having their outer lower corners cut away to receive said ribs and permit limited pivotal ing blocks, and means for forcing said wedge members into engagement with the ad acent sides of the knife carrvln block.
