To all'wkom it may concern:
7 Be it known that I, LEE W. BLEIER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Carrier- Machines, of which the following is a specification,reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which forma part of the same. j
"A principal object of my invention is'to provide a machine. for the purpose ofreceiving and jcarrying commodities and particularly receiving commodities carried to themachine by carrier belts from another machine in which some' operation has been performed on such commodity, such as. cuttingxor any other-operation to which-the article may have been subjected, and carrying the sameto some other convenient point such as the place intended for wrapping or packing theisamer I Another'object of my invention is to provide" means for transferring commodities from onebelt to another belt running transversely of thefirst named belt.

.Referring now in detail to the drawings, 11 represents standards of any convenient design upon whichthe machine rests. Upon these "standards are fitted the table 12 and the bars 3-3 as shown. Supported by the bars 3.,3 is a .span.5 carrying a. support 4 upon whichrests'the table 2, this table being otherwise supported in any convenient manner.

This pedestal 15 has a bifurcated portion and carries therein a shaft 21 upon which, is mounted to travel therewith the receiving belt carrier pulleys 7 7 This shaft is operated by the sprocket chain 17, from a source of power not shown, over the sprocket wheel 16 upon the shaft 38 which has splined thereto the bevel gear 19 which meshes with thebevel gear 39splined to the shaft 21. On this shaft 21 is. also splined the ratchetwheel 33. It will be seen that upon the operation of the sprocket wheel 16, the bevel gears 19 and 39 and the receiving beltpulleys 77 and the ratchet wheel 33' are designed to run in unison. The shaft 38 is supported by the pedestal 40 which also issecured to the table 12 as shown. This pedestal 40 is provided with an arm 41 extending therefrom and has pivoted therein the rocking lever 28. This 'rockmg leverl isprovided at its upper end with a projection 27 against which the commodlty traveling on the delivery belt 36 presses the spring 30. mounted between the stationary pedestal 40 and the opposite end of the rocking lever 28 is actuated by said commodity pressing against the projection 27 and tends to draw the same back into the original position shown in Fig. 3. t "This rocking lever 28 is provided with a locking arm 35 which is adapted to move with the rockingof the lever into and out of contact with the pawl 34 which controls. the operation of the cam 32 which isadapted to run free on the shaft 21. In the position shown in Fig. 4 the. locking arm 35 is holding the cam 32 in stationary position and is also holding the spring pressed pawl 34 out of engagement with the ratchet wheel 33. This corresponds to the position shown in Fig. 3. Upon the commodity bearing against the projection 27 the rocking lever 28 is pressed againstthe tension of the spring 30 and the locking arm 35 is withdrawn from operative position with the pawl 34, which pawlengages with the moving ratchet wheel 33 and is carried thereby for a revolution, when the rocking. lever 28falls into its original position together with its concomitant arm 35, again locking the cam 32 and pressing the pawl 34 out of engagement with the ratchet wheel 33.
Supported on the base 14 is also the lever 22 which is adapted .to oscillate on the pivot 23. .On the. other end of this lever 22 is mounted aslide or. carriage 24 which operates in suitable guideways 37 which are stationary in the frame of the machine. This slide is provided with a pusher 25 which is adapted to travel with said slide andalso transversely of the moving delivery belt 36, transferring any commodity on said belt within the path of said pusher onto the re-- ceiving belt 6. The operating and timing of the slide 2 1- is controlled by the cam 32,
and the spring 26 which draws the roller 31 on saidlever 22 against the periphery of said cam and 1n the revolution of sald cam carries the pusher across sald dellvery belt 36 returns the slide and its concomitant pusherback to original position where it is locked by the action of locking arm 35 until it is again released by a commodity pressing against the projection 27 of lever 22.
In the above description and the accompanying drawings I have shown the preferable embodiment of my invention but do not wish to be confined to the disclosure therein contained but what I desire to cover by Letters Patent is set forth in the appended claims. v

In a-carrier machine, a delivery belt suitably mounted and adapted to feed commodities, a receiving belt with suitable mounting means including a pulley, said receiving'belt being positioned immediately below and transversely of the delivery belt; means for operating saidrespective belts in directions transverse to each other; a rocking lever suitably mounted and adapted at one end to project into the pathway of commodities carried by the delivery belt, and to be rocked by said commodities, a shaft suitably connected with power carrying the aforesaid pulley for the receiving belt,an'd adapted to control the operation of said receiving belt, a ratchet wheel mounted on and adapted to move with said shaft, a cam mounted on said shaft, but adapted'to be free from the operation thereof, apawl pivoted to said cam, and adapted to engage with said ratchet wheel, a locking arm controlled by the aforesaid rocking lever adapted to lock said pawl out of engagement with "said ratchet wheel and thus hold said cam sta tionary on the aforesaid shaft; an oscillat ing lever pivoted at one end and having a carriage-at the other'end and means :for normally drawing said lever 'again's't the periphery of the aforesaid cam; and moving said carriage transversely of the delivery belt, a a

5. In a carrier machine, a pulley, a shaft for said pulley, a ratchet wheel mounted on and adapted to move with said shaft, a cam mounted on said shaft, but adapted to be free from the operation thereof, a pawl pivoted to said cam and adapted to engage with said ratchet wheel, a rocking lever, and a locking arm controlled by the aforesaid rocking lever adapted to lock said pawl out of engagement with said ratchet wheel and thus hold said cam stationary on the aforesaid shaft.
