Be i known that I, CHARLES LErrLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, in the borough of Brooklyn and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Containers, of .which the following is a full,` clear., and exact description.
My invention relates to containers or cans and particularly to articles of this .class having a body portion of paper board, card board, orl the like. An object of my invention is to provide such a can body structure which will be inexpensive and at the same time fwill be strong and durable land will have a well nished and protected joint.` @ther objects are facility and convenience in manufacture. Still other objects and advantages of my invention will appear from the following description.

Sandt when the can body is formed. Toreinforce and protect the joint as well as to finish the faces of the can body, covering sheets are provided which overlap the `joint both interiorly and eXteriorly. The outer coverin sheet Zn, which may serve for the label, if desired, is' secured to the outer face of the body material a, and, as shown, eX- tends in the blank from the inner ends of the projections c to a substantialy distance beyondthe outer ends of theJ projections a. Similarly the inner or lining sheet'c extends from the inner ends of the projections a to a substantial distance beyond the outer ends of the projections c. I v
ln' formingthe can body from the blank` the blank is wrapped around a forming mandrel of the desired shape and the two dovetail ends are interlocked. At the same time the extending ends of the covering sheets, which are provided with gum or other adhesive, are stuck down overlapping the joint, as shown in Fig. 5, thereby securing `and covering the joint, and giving both the inside and outside of the cana nished, smooth surface. llt will be noted that there is no metal to'contact with the contents of the can, and that the operation of forming the can body can "be very quickly and easily performed. While the invention is especially adapted to paper cans, it is not necessarily limited to that material,l and other modifications maybe made in thespecific structure shown and described without departing 'fromthe scope of vmy invention.
