Be it known that I, RICHARD Ganvnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Venice. in the county of Los- Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful improvements in Foot-Fenders, of
' which the :t'ollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to foot fenders for street ears and the like, and consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective showing a foot fender embodying the principles of my invention upon the floor of a car in front of the car seat. and in. position for use.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the foot fender 1 is mounted upon the car floor 2 parallel with and in front of the car seat The main body of the foot fender 1 consists of a plurality of i i-shaped frames 45 connected together by a sheet metal bottom 5 and a sheet metal top 6, the bottom 5 and the top 6 being prefe ably formed of a single sheet bent to fit around the points of the frames 1, and the sheet metal is secured to the frames by rivets 7. The rear side 8 of the fender is open thus providing access to the chamber 9 between the bottom 5 and top 6 and between the frames 4. The rear edge 10 of the top 6 is preferably rolled and wired, and the front edge 11 of the complete fender is rounded to substantially a half circle. The hinged legs 12 are secured to the rear side of the bottom 5. Each leg 12 consists of an attaching plate 13 secured to the floor 2 a post 14 extending upwardly from of the seat 3 which is 8 inches wide.

The rigid supporting legs 22 have attaching plates 23 formed integral with their upper ends and secured to the front part of the bottom 5 by rivets 24.
An ordinary street car is 90 inches wide inside. The side seats 3 are 17 inches wide and 20 inches high. The distance between the side seats 3 is 56 inches. My foot fender is preferably 10 inches wide from the front edge '11 to the rolled rear edge 10, and the fender is set to leave a space 25 between the rear side of the fender and the front face This will leave a space between the front edges 11 of the two fenders 20 inches wide. The passengers will stand and wall: upon the floor 2 in this 20 inch space between the two fenders. The passengers who are to oc cupy the seats 3 will step over the ienders 1, and when sitting upon the seats 3 their feet will rest with their heels upon the floor 2 and the toes extending through the opening 8 into the chamber 9. Then the passengers standing in the center of the car between the fenders cannot walk upon the feet of the passengers occupying the seats or stumble over them, and when the passengers are walking up and down the car in the 20 inch space they cannot be tripped by the feet of 'the passengers occupying the seats. The passengers standing upon. the floor or in the center of the car may stand with their toes extending under the rounded edges 11 of the fenders, and in passing over the fenders to, the seats they may step upon the top 6.
lVhen it is desired to sweep the floor 2 of the car, the space 25 may first be cleaned and then the front edge 11 of the fender may be turned upwardly until the rolled edge 10 under the fender may be cleaned.
When the foot fender is in its normal position for use, as in Figs. 1 and 2, the bottom 5 is at a comfortable incline. so that the occupant of the side seat 3 will rest his heels upon the floor 2 with his toes extending through the opening 8 on to the bottom 5.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. In a foot fender, vertical frames, a sheet metal body mounted upon the frames and forming a ohznnber and an opening to the rear side of the chamber, legs for hingedly connecting the rear side of the body to the floor of a car, and rigid legs for supporting the front part of the body.
