To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, BERNARD E. J. ScHwnR'rz, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the county of 0rleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Shaving-Brushes, of which the following is a specifica-tion.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in shaving brushes.

The principal object of the invention is the provision of a shaving brush having a collapsible handle whereby the brush may be carried in a small space.

A further object of the invention is the construction of the handle in such a manner that the sections will be held securely in position when collapsed.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more clearly understood from the following description and drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation with the handle extended.

Fig. 2 is a side elevation with the handle collapsed, parts being broken away to show the interior.

In the drawings the numeral 1 indicates the base of the handle having the bristles 2 set in the under side thereof, and this base may be of'any suitable material such as wood, bone, rubber, or metal. A sleeve 3 is formed integral with, or secure to the top of the base l, inany suitable manner and as is clearly shown in the drawings this sleeve is of greater diameter at the top than at the bottom and is preferably formed of flexible material for the purpose as will bel presently described. A second sleeve 4 is adapted to surround the sleeve 3 and the top is of greater diameter than the bottom, the diameter of the bottom of the sleeve 4 being slightly less than the diameter of the top of the sleeve 3 whereby the bottom of the sleeve 4 will engage the top of the sleeve 3 when the sleeve 4 is raised. A. third sleeve 5 surrounds the sleeve 4 and as is in the other sleeve is of less diameter at the bottom than at the top whereby the bottom will engage the upper end of the sleeve 4 when raised. The sleeves 4 and 5, as well as the sleeve 3, are preferably formed of flexible material so that when the sleeves are raised there will be sufficient friction to hold them in their raised position. A cap 6 is formed on the top of the sleeve 5 whereby the sleeve 5 entirely houses the sleeves 3 and 4 when they are in their lowered position.

A circumferential groove 7 is formed in the -top of the base 1, as more particularly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, and this groove is slightly less in circumference than the bottom of the sleeve 5 but of suflicient circumference whereby the end of the sleeve 5 may be forced therein. The sleeve 5 being of flexible material allows the end to be forced into the groove 7 Having fully described the detailed construction of my device it is thought that the manner of using and the advantages will be clearly understood. I have provided a shaving brush with a collapsible handle which when extended may be used as the ordinary shaving brush is but which may be ,collapsed for carrying in a small space.

Such abrush will be of particular advantage to one who is traveling. In Fig. l of the drawings the handle is shown extended and as previously described by having the sections of iexible material there will be suficient friction when the sections are extended to hold them in extended position. When not in use the section, or sleeve 4, is telescoped over the sleeve 3 and the sleeve 5 is telescoped over the sleeve 4 and the sleeves 3 and 4 will be entirely housed within the sleeve 5. The lower end of the sleeve 5 is Hexed into the groove 7 and the friction will hold the sleeve 5 in lowered position whereby it cannot be accidentally extended.
