My vinvention relates to an improvement in water heaters, in` which a plurality of.'V
water circulating elements are connected in a particular way to utilize the outgoing heat productsV of the heater in pre-heating the cold-V -water coming into the circulating elements and inincreasin the temperature 'of the preheated water be ore delivering thesame intoVA a common discharge pipe, and in which eachl water-circulating element communicates directly with the said mainy discharge pipe to assure an unrestricted circulation and effect the highest degree of heating results -with ab-k solute safety and great economy. y
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a sectional view of a heater containing a pair of Water-circulating coilsarranged and connected according to my invention, and lFigs. 1
2 and 3 are sectional and side views, respectively, of modified forms of the apparatus, allV as hereinafter more particularly described.
Thus, in Fig. 1 I show a cylindrical heater casing 2 having a gas burner k3 beneath its open bottom and equipped with an exhaust pipe 4 at its top. VTwo separate coils of pipe 5 and 6, respectively, are supported in rany suitable way, one above the other centrally with the combustion chamber17,fand ther- 1 Supper coil 5 has a'cold water supply pipe 8 connected with its bottomeintake end. `The flow of water is upwardly through the pipe and in the same generaldirection as the prodthrough Vcombustion chamber 7, and the hot water from coil 5 is directly downwardly from its upperv end into the `bottom of ythe lower 'coil 6Vby vertical pipe 9.; Coil 6v is placed-immediately above and'inclose proximity to burner 3 and'is exposed-to the great- 'Y est kheat derived therefrom, Ywhile upper burner 5 is mounted in a zoneof lower temperature, that is, it is more remote and heatedV by the out-going products ofcombustion. In fact, the vapparatus would be unsafe and unreliable',withoutfthe connecting pipe 12-as this pipe affords relief of vapors .and overiow of hot water under high-heating conditions and permits a return flow to coil 5 from stand-pipe 10 whenever a condition arises to cause such return flow. Furthermore, the apparatus may be operated very effectively sumption of fuel.
In Fig. 2, I show three chambered sections:
