ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 7, 1919.
Application filed November 17, 1917. Serial N 0. 202,458.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN DREXLER, a subject of the King of Hungary, resident of Toledo, county of Lucas, and State of Ohio, and JOSEPH HOLLO, a subject of the King of Hungary, resident of Toledo, county of Lucas, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in advertising devices and particularly to types used as indicators in street cars.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a sign of the class described adapted to be operated by power at desired intervals and which will indicate stations or stopping points of the car, also displaying advertising matter simultaneously.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing. forming a material part of this specification, and in Which:
Figure l is a perspective view showing an advertising sign made in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view showing a form of operating means.
In the drawings, a rectangular case 10, is provided with two transparent panels, respectively 11 and 12, the latter, lower panel being of-lesser magnitude than the upper, so that a single line only is displayed, while the upper panel may be of such size as is desired.
A single narrow tape 40 is employed, the same being driven by passing over the roller 41, on which is a sprocket 42, rotated by the chain 43 in an obvious manner. A roller 44 acts as a guide for the tape 40, which then passes over rollers 45 and 46, respectlvely at the top and bottom of the casing and through blocks 48, supported by feet 49 attached to the casing, the blocks being of considerable length and containing narrow helical slots 50, so that as the tape passes from end to end thereof, it is twisted or turned so as to expose one of its faces to the panel 11 and the other face or side to the panel 12.
It will be obvious that any length of tape may be used that may be desired.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a transparent sign, the combination with a casing having two transparent panels, a narrow tape operable within said casing adjacent to said panels, a pair of fixed blocks through which said tape passes, and a narrow helical slot formed longitudinally through said blocks, by means of which said tape is twisted half way around, so that the inscription on one side is disclosed through one of said panels. and the inscription upon the other side through the other panel.
In testimony whereof we have afiixed our signatures.
J OH N DREXLER. JOSEPH HOLLO.
