Description
T. IVI. K. DVERLAND.

APPLICATION FILED MAY l0. |91?.
Patented Dec. 3l, 1918.
THOMAS M. K. OVERLAND, OF BESTUM, NEAR CHRISTIANIA, NORWAY.
HOLDER FOR GILLETTE AND THE LIKE RAZOR-BLADES.
reassess,
To all whom t may concern.-
clear, and exact description of the inven-v tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying '(lrawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a blade holder for Gillette and the like razor blades.
The object of the invention is to provide a blade holder of this class, composed-of only7 two simple and -cheap sheet metal parts slidable relatively to each other in such manner that the handle portion inV one position is adapted to beiused as a handle, and in another position serves as a protector for the blade edge.
rlhe invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing. I
Figure 1 is a side view of the holder and Fig. 2 a sectional view on lihe -A, Fig. l.
Fi 3 illustrates a modified form of the hand e portion.
1 is a piece of elastic sheet metal bent double to the cross sectional form shown in Fig. 2. In one sideI ofthe same are punched out conical. tongues 4, adapted to fit into the holes of a Gillette or similar razor blade 3, the ends of said tongues fitting into holes or pockets in the` opposite part of the sheet metal plate and thereby locking the blade 3 in position between the two upper portions of the piece l, which are kept pressed against each other by the spring action of the sheet metal.
Below these tongues i and the opposite holes the piece 1 bulges out into a rectangular, oval or other non-circular cross section, as shown on Fig. 2, and into the sleeve or guide formed by this portion of the piece l is fitted the handle 2, likewise of sheet metal and bent into corresponding cross sectional form.
In the preferred form shown in the drawings this handle 2 'besides serving as a handle, also serves as a protector or screen for the edge of the razor blade 3, and also as a Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed May 10, 1917. Serial' No. 167,715.,
means `for spreading the holder for the removal and insertion of blades.
r.In F ig. 1 the'handle 2 is shown slid halfway over the blade 3, its slot 5 fitting around the same in such way as to protect its edge completely when moved to its extreme left position. Y
l/Vhen the blade is to be removed, this is effected by turning the handle 2 axially whereby the two sides of the piece 1 will be pressed outward, thereby widening the slot 6 between them, and drawing the tongues l out of the opposite holes of the blade 3, thereby enabling the blade to be removed and replaced by a fresh one.
' In Fig. 1 the relative movements of the parts 1 and 2 are limited by a collar 7 and a knob 9, pressed out at the respective ends of the handle portion 2. y
In the modified form of the handle shown in Fig. 3 the movement of the handle is limited by aid of the tongues 8 turned up from the main body of the handle.
I claim:
1. A collapsible razor comprising a holder of resilient sheet metal adapted to grip the razor blade between its sides and having an integral sleeve portion at one end, and a handle movable in said sleeve portion having a slot to receive the edge of the blade when the razor is collapsed.
2. A razor blade holder comprising a resilient sheet-metal member adapted to grip a blade between its sides and having a laterally projecting sleeve portion at one end thereof, and a tubular member movable longitudinally in the sleeve and adapted to form a handle for the sheet metal member, said tubular member having a longitudinal slot arranged to receive the lower portion of a blade when the tubular member is moved in the sleeve under the sheet metal member.
3. A razor blade holder comprising a resilient sheet-metal clamp adapted to hold a blade, and an operating lhandle connected wlth said clamp adapted to spread the latter to release a blade therefrom.
4. A razor blade holder comprising a re- 4silient; sheet-metal clamp having sides adapted to grip a blade between them, and having a sleeve portion, and an operating handle in the latter adapted to spread the clamp to release a blade therefrom.
5. A razor blade holder comprising a resilient sheet-metal clamp having sides adapted to grip a blade between them, and having a sleeve portion, Vand an operating handle rotatable in the latter and adapted to spread the clamp to release a blade therefrom.
6. A razor blade holder comprising a resilient sheet-metal clamp having sides adapted to grip a blade between'them and having a non-cylindrical sleeve portion, and a tubular operating handle axially movable in said sleeve and having a cross section corresponding to the cross section of the sleeve. for the purpose speciiied. L y
7. A razor blade holder comprising a resilient sheet-metal clamping member having sides adapted to grip a blade between them and formed withA tongues arranged to fit into Laeasse apertures in a blade, a laterally projecting non-cylindrical sleeve formed at one end of the clamping member,'a non-cylindrical tubular member arranged parallel to the lower edge of the clamping member and slidably mounted and axially movable in said sleeve, said tubular member having a longitudinal slot arranged to receive the lower portion of a lblade when the tubular member is moved in theY s leeve under the clamping member. s In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
