HOBACE'P. BROWN, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOB TO PACIFIC-BURT COMPANY,
LIMITED, 01? TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, A CORPORATION OF ONTARIO.
SALES-BOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1'7,- 191.8.
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that 1, Homer: P. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sales- Books, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to manifolding devices, and with regard to its more specific features, to a manifolding salesbook.
An object of this invention is to provide a practical book in which a multiple record may be made.
' Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described in which all of the records may be strong and legible. 7
Another object "is to provide a device of the character described in which all the records will be direct reading.
Other objects will 'be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
The invention accordingly consists in the features. of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter set forth, and the scope of the ap-. plication of whichwill be indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, and wherein similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a perspective view of an em-- bodiment of the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a side view showing the leaf are rangement.
Referring now more specifically to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates'a back, to one end of which is attached a support 2, as by staple 3, the support 2 being somewhat shorter than the back. To the other end of the back 1 is attached the pad 4 comprising'a series of leaves bound together, and also, if desired, to the back 1 by staple 5. To the other end of the support 2 from the staple 3 is attached a pad 6 comprising a series of sheets bound together, and also, if desired, to the support 2 by staple 7. Each of the sheets of the pad 6 is folded upon itself in a zigzag manner toform three superposed leaves, as a bound leaf 8 and intermediateleaf 9 and upper leaf 10, operatively assoclated with the pad 6. In position to be inserted between leaves 8 and 9 of the top sheet. is a carbon sheet 11, which may be" -conveniently bound inwardly with the pad 6. The pad 6 and the pad 4 and the carbon sheet 11, are so disposed relative to each otherthat the bottom sheets in the pad 4 may be inserted between the leaf 9 and the carbon sheet 11. For. the purpose of transferrmg any record made upon the leaf 10,
to the upper side of the leaf 9 and to the upper side of the sheet 12 from the pad 4,. suitable transfer material will be placed between the leaves 9 and 10 and between lows: Theleaves of the pad 4 having been folded back to expose the pad 6, the leaves 9 and 10 of the" top sheet from the pad 2 may be folded back to permit the carbon 11 to fall upon the leaf 8. The bottom sheet from, the pad 4 may now be superposed on the carbon and the'sheets 9 and 10 folded back into place. Any record which is now made upon the sheet 10 will be transferred to the leaves 8, 12 and 9 and will read direct upon the upper 'side of each sheet. .The sheets 8, 9 and 10 may now be removed from the book and the sheet 12 may be placed between the support 1 and 2, leaving the book in position for a repetition of the above manipulation.
By the above construction it will be evident that not only can a four copy record be made, of which one copy may remain in the book, but also that all four copies will be clear and legible because of the fact that the fourth copy, which receives the least pressure from the pencil as the record is made, receives the impression from a carbon sheet which gives a much stronger impression where the record is made from the carbonized under face of a record sheet.
shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
lit is also to be understood that the language used in the following claims is intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described and all statements of the scope of the invention, which, as a matter of language, rni ht be said to fall therebetween.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is: I
4 l. A device of the character described comprising, in combination, a pad having itssheets folded back upon itself to form three superposed leaves, a second pad supported in such relation to the first pad that its sheets may be interposed between two of the leaves of each sheet of the first pad, successively, transfer material upon the under side of the top two leaves of each sheet of the first pad, and a sheet of transfer material carbonized on its lower side between the lower leaf of the sheet of the first pad and the interposed sheet.
2. A device of the character described comprising, in combination, a support, apad, of leaves attached to one end of said support so as normally to overlie the same, a second'pad of leaves comprising sheets'each folded upon itself to form three superposed leaves, said pad being connected to said support and adapted to overlie the same with its bound edge farther from the end of the support'than the bound edge of the first pad, whereby the sheets of the first pad may be interposed between the leaves of a sheet of the second pad to form a quadruplicate record, and transfer material adapted to transfer to the lower three sheets of said record the impression made upon the upper;
3.. A device of the character described comprising, in combination, a support, a pad of leaves attached to one end of said support so'as normally to overlie the same, a second pad of leaves comprising sheets each folded upon itself to form three superposed leaves, said pad being connected-to said support and adapted to overlie the same with the hound edge farther from the end of the support than the bound edge of the first pad; wherebythe'sheets of the first pad maybe-interposed between the leaves of a sheet of the. second pad to form a quadruplicate record, transfer material on one face of two of the leaves of each-of the sheets of the'second pad, and a sheet of transfer material adapt; ed to he disposed between the lower lea; or
the top sheet and remaining 4-. A device of the character described comprising, in combination, :a back, a pad of leaves attached to one end of said baclr,
transfer material attached to transfer to.
the lower three sheets of said record the irnpression made upon the upper.
5. A device of the character described comprising, in combination, a back, a pad of leaves attached to one end of said back, a support, a pad of leaves attached to one end of the support, comprising sheets each folded upon itself to form three superposed leaves, the support and the backattached together at their other ends with the first pad and the end of the back extendin out from underthe support whereby a pee et is formed between the support and the-back, and the leaves of the first pad may be inserted between the leaves of a sheet of the second ad to form aquadruplicate record, transfer material on one 'faceof two of the leaves of each of the sheets of the second pad, a sheet of transfer material adapted to be disposed between the lower leaf hf the top sheet and the remaining leaves thereof. p l
6;, A vdevice of the character described comprising, incornbination, a plurality of pads, a back to which each secured, one of said padsbeing secured to said back by a pad support connected, to said back at the end opposite the bound en of the leaves of the last mentioned padQt-e other pad being secured tothe back so that the leaves thereof are adaptedto-underlie and overlie.
the other pad, the which is connected to said baclr by said support, comprising sheets each folded upon itself to form three "superposed leaves, the upper two of which .llld
have transfer material (thrill 5551 under faces,
and-La carbon sheet secured the back and I adapted to he against the lower leaf of said 1 folded sheetto tr'msfer impressions thereto; testimony whereof l aids my signature, in the presence of two witn es.
