Description

V. W. WILSON.
TOP HAME FASTENER.
APPLICATION men MAY 22. ms.
1,285,530, Patented Nov. 19, 1918.
' ITE VANCE "WILSON, OF'BROOKLET, GEORGIA."
TOP HAME-FAS'IENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 19, 1918.
Application filed May 22, 1918. Serial No. 235,970.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VANCE WRIGHT WIL- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklet, in the county of Bulloch and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Top Hame- Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to top strings for hames and the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved top spring for hames, which can be adjusted vertically on the hames according to the size and shape of a collar and which can be adjusted to bring the hames toward each other to tightly engage the collar.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved top hame string, which can be readily adjusted according to the size and shape of the collar, which is constructed entirely of metal and whereby wear on the same is reduced to a minimum.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved hame strap, which is efficient and durable in construction, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one that can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof in which:
Fi re 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of the hames showing the top string attached thereto,
Fig. Q'is a plan view of the improved string showing one of the hames inserted in one of the clips, and
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the clips for engaging the hames.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 generally indicates the improved upper hame strap, which is adapted to be attached to hames 2 and 3, which may be constructed in the ordinary manner and of any preferred material. The improved upper hame strap includes a pair of clips 1 and 5 which are shaped to conform to the configuration of the hames and are so formed that they can be readily slid on the hames and adjusted vertically on the same. The clips 4 and 5 are provided with threaded apertures 6 in the side walls in which are turned set screws 7 which are arranged to engage the hames 2 and 3 to prevent movement of the clips 4 and 5 on the same. Swivelly connected to the inner sides the hames 4 and 5 as at 8 are eyes 9 and 10. A chain 11 of any preferred construction is secured to the eye 9 and a snap fastener 12 is carried by the eye 10 and is adapted to en gage in any one of the links of the chain, so that the chain can be shortened or length ened according to the size of the collar. The snap fastener 12 includes a bill or hook 13, which is adapted to engage in any one of the links, and the same are prevented from moving out of engagement with the bill by means of the ordinary pivoted latch 14, which is held in closed position against the bill by a leaf spring 15.
From the foregoing description it can be seen that a metallic top hame string is provided, which can be readily attached to the hame and adjusted thereon according to the size of the collar so that a perfect strip may be obtained.
In practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiments, is the most efiicient and practical; yet realizing the condition concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required, without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention as set forth.
What I claim as new\is:
The combination with hames removably fitted to a collar, of a pair of clips slidably mounted on the upper ends of the hames,
means for securin posltlon,
g the clips in an adjusted a chain swivelly carried by one of ried by the other clip and arranged to de- 5 tachably engage in any one of the links of the chain, as and for the purpose specified.
Copies ofthis patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two wltnesses.
