Application filed June c, 1916. serial no. 101,938.
To all whom "it may concern hill ney of a suitable Be it known that l, ERAPHIAA. Swinanr, a citizen of thelUnited States, residing at Randall, in the 'countyof Jewell and State of Kansas, have inventedcertain new and Heating Attachuseful Improvements in ments for Incubators, Brooders, and the like; andT do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in ventio'n, the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in heating attachment for incubators, brooders and the like and the principal object of the invention is to provide an automatically controlled means for regulating the heat within the device.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device which will admit fresh air to the brooder or incubator should the .device become overheated.
A further object of the invention is to provide a simply controlled thermostatic means including a pair of relatively adjustable dampers which are arranged so that should any of the rods become bent the dampers may be readily adjusted to their roper relative positions.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which:-
Figure 1 is an end view of a brooder constructed in ccordance with this invention, and
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the device.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates the brooder box or body having secured to oneend wall a bracket 2, the end walls of the brooder are formed with openings 3 arranged in alinement to receive the heating drum or tube 1 one end of wh1ch is provided with the apertured closure 5, while ases from a lamp chimamp positioned beneath of the flue and the upper end of said flue is left open to be closed by a suitable damper which will be more fully hereinafter described. A suitable bracket 7 isattached to the end wall of the box 1 to which the bracket 2 is connected and these to receive the hot the lower open end Specification of Letters Patent.
such as will enable others skilledin the opposite end communicates with the interior of the due 6. This flue 6 is adapted Patented Nov. a.
brackets are arranged to pivotally support the damper controlling arms which will be more fully hereinafter described.
A thermostat 8is mounted on a suitable bracket 9 within the boX 1 and this bracket 9 carries the standard 10 on which is pivotally mounted the lever 11 one end of which bears onthe upper side of the thermostatd while the opposite end haspivotally connected thereto as at 12 a rod 13, the upper end of Which is externally screw threaded as at 14 to cooperate with the threads of the wing nuts 15 and 1 6.
i A lever 17 1s plvotally connected at 18 to the bracket 2 and the rear end of this lever is apertured to receive the rod 13 while the opposite end of the lever carries the damper 19 which is positioned directly over the upper open end of the flue 6. The thumb nut 16 bears on the upper side of the lever 17 and it will thus be seen that upon turning the thumb nut 16 the position of the damper 19 may be varied without moving the rod 13.
Fivoted in the bracket 7 is a lever 20 which like the lever 17 is formed with an opening to receive the upper threaded end of the rod 13 and the thumb nut 15 is adapted to bear on this lever in order that the same may be adjusted without moving the rod. The rear end of the rod 20 is threaded as at 21 and an internally threaded weight 22 is threaded on the portion 21 to act as a counterbalanbe for the damper designated by the numeral 23 which is positioned over the opening 24 in the top wall of the brooder. This opening 24: is to allow the warm air from the brooder to escape should the interior of the brooder become overheated and in order to supply fresh air to the brooder suitable openings 25 are formed in the side walls as will be clearly seen upon reference to Fig. 2.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use a lamp is set below the lower open end of the fine 6 and it will be apparent that the hot gases will pass upwardly through the flue and when the wafer 19 closes the same it will be apparent that the gases will be directed through the drum 4: and out through the opening in the end wall 5. As theltemperature rises within the brooder it will be apparent that the thermostat 8 will become operative and after passing a predeterminedpoint it will be seen that the lever 11 will be moved to pull the rod 13 downwardly thereby lifting the damper 19 ampsrs ,9 an
