It will be seen, therefore, that the ways have a cam action on the slats so that the operator does not have to lift them and place the cross-head in the `way* 16, but simply throws them back. Ii' on the other hand he Wishes to lower them, he simply' ulls the lslats and the cross-head 18 out of t e way 16, and the sluts fallto a horizontal position, and the cross-head lies in the- Way 17 in which it can move freely and vertically.`
This way 17 therefore provides for vthe vertical movement of the cross-heads, and it will be noticed that varying thicknesses of stock can be used, and the cross-heads simply pushed into the next adjacent wagyf` 16.
To provide for a still lbetter adjustment of the slat elements `with relation to the ways 16, and for variations of thickness in the stock, I prefer to make'the guide posts 13 vertically adjustable. Aconvenient'way to do this is to provide them with slots 18 (see Fig. 3) and with nuts and bolts 13b connectin through the slot with the ost 11. As before stated, the posts 12 are left on the truck at the back side so that the operator can insert the stock freely from the front side. When not in use theslats 19,E are `tipped upas shown at the upper part of Fig. 1, and they arepulled out and dropped to lace as the piling of the stock proceeds.

An apparatus of the kind described comprising a portable bed, guide posts spaced apart on the bed and rovided with a vertical Way and With lnclined Ways opening from the vertical Way, and a plurality of slat elements having cross-heads movable in the vertical way and adapted to fit in the inclined Ways.

An apparatus of the kind described comprising a support, vertically adjustable posts on the support, spaced apart and provided with inclined Ways one above the other, and slat elements arranged to move up and down between the posts and to fit in the inclined Ways each slat element comprising a cross-head, and nger-like slats spaced apart and projecting from the cross-head.

An apparatus of the kind described comprising a series of slat elements adapted to lie one above the other, each comprising slats spaced apart and connected by a crosshead, and a series of inclined Ways opposite the cross-head said Ways being adapted to receive said cross-heads and being vertically adjustable.
