by declare the following to be afull clear;- and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to cork extractors, and more particularly to the class of cork pullers.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein a cork when engaged in the neck of a bottle can be readily gripped for the pulling of the same therefrom, without damaging the bottle or breaking the cork.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the construction thereof is novel in form so that a cork can be withdrawn from the mouth of a bottle, one of the blades or jaws of the device being slidable so that it may be inserted between the cork and the mouth of the bottle for the firm gripping of the cork to enable the extracting thereof with despatch.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is extremely simple in construction, read ily and easily operated, strong, durable, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its purpose, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts. as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation thereof;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1; V
Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional View on the line H of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional elevation similar to Fig. 1 looking toward the opposite side of the device.

' responding' parts tlrroughout L the -several Referring to the drawing in det'ail,i
cork extractor or pullirfcomprises -a main or body" pla'te "5 preferably of a 'shape-cons'ti tuting a long arm. 6 and a. relativelyshort armi? at right angles thereto; the latter be ing formed with a guide 8 in which is slidably fitted the shank 9 of a handle 10 integral therewith, the shank being preferably of squared formation in cross section.
Opposite the handle 10 is a companion swinging handle 11 supported upon a pivot 12 mounted in the lon arm f the plate 5 and the inner end 0 this handle 11 has knuckle joint or hinge connection as at 13 with a swinging shank 14 supported upon a pivot 15 mounted in the plate 5 opposite the sliding shank 9 for a purpose presently described.
Formed on the outer ends of the shanks 9 and 14 are outwardly curved blades constituting jaws 16 which are opposite each other and are formed with outwardly tapered pointed ends 17 the jaws being adapted for insertion within the mouth of a bottle between the wall of said mouth and a cork and on compressing the handles 10 and 11 toward each other the swinging jaw 16 will approach the slidable jaw 16 for the positive gripping of the cork therebetween so that it can be withdrawn or extracted from the mouth of the bottle without possibility of the cork slipping from between the jaws during the operation of extracting the said cork from the bottle.
The shank 9 of the handle 10 being slidably mounted in the guide 8 will permit the jaw 16 of said shank to be readily inserted between the mouth of the bottle and the cork therein to a point beneath the cork to insure a firm gripping of the latter by both jaws nected with the jaws for operating the same, one of the handles being designed to move the pivot jaw toward and away from the slidable jaw without disturbing said slidable jaw.
2. A cork puller of the character described comprising a main plate, a guide on said plate, a slidable shank fitted in said guide and having a handle, a swinging handle pivoted to the plate opposite the first named handle, a swinging shank pivoted to the plate and connected with the swinging handle, and jaws carried by said shanks.
.3. A cork puller of the character described comprising a main plate, a guide on said plate, a slidable shank fitted in said guide and having a handle, a swinging handle pivoted to the plate opposite the first named handle, a swinging shank pivoted to the plate and connected with the swinging handle, and jaws carried by said shanks, the jaws being of outwardly curved formation in cross section and having tapered pointed free ends.
