I... ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES LOWE, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,165, dated June 18, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES LOWE, of Washin gton city, District of Columbia, have invented an improved device for handling and holding the hose used by firemen .when in the act of extinguishing fires, and for straightening out and handling the same generally; and I do hereby declare that the following, in connection with the drawing herewith, is a description of my invention.
A B, Figure 1, represents a metal device for clamping, holding, and operating, in any capacity, a firemans hose. The'full lines represent the device in its normal attitude when adjusted. (See Figs. 1 and 2.) The dotted lines in Fig. 1 show the device thrown open, so that it may be adjusted to the hose preparatory to operations. A and B, respectively, represent hollow arms, in which are inserted wood or other suitable levers or arms of convenient length and size for holding the hose while operating therewith. F, Fig. 1, is a hinge on the under side of the circle, by means of which the device is opened and closed. C is a circular hasp hinged at E, Fig. 1, near the base of the arm B. Near the other end of the hasp G is a slot, which passes over a button, D, Fig. 2, which is loosely riveted through the circular part of the main device near the base of arm A. This button D, when turned in the position as shown in Fig. 2, holds the hasp firmly down upon the main circle and keeps the device together, but when turned in the opposite direction releases the hasp and per- Inits an easy opening of the circle, as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 1.
This device or hose-holder may be made of any suitable metal, and of such size and dimensions as the convenience and necessities of the case may require, to be governed always by the size and weight of the hose upon which it is to be used.
