Description

GEORGE HENRY WHEARY, OF RACINE, WISCONSIN.
GAEMENT-HANGEE FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented A110. 27, 1918.
Application filed December 26, 1914. Serial No. 879,033.
To all w/Lom t may conce-rn:
Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY THE-mr, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of IVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment- Hanger Fixtures, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garment hanger fixtures.
Modern wardrobe trunks are usually provided with garment hangers which are slidably supported at their opposite ends upon tracks. Other wardrobe trunks are pro- .'vided with garment hangers of the ordinary type having medial hooks which engage a single track provided in the trunk. In dwelling houses or other places of abode the wardrobe closets are usually provided with ordinary clothes hooks which are-fastened to the side walls of the rooms. These clothes hooks while suitable for supporting one or two of the last mentioned garment hangers are not adapted to support a considerable number of the said hangers, nor are they adapted to support any of the hangers in the same manner that they are held while in the trunk. The `ordinary clothes hooks are also not adapted to support'garment hangers of the modern type which have support engaging hooks at their opposite ends.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide a garment hanger xture which may be secured to one of the side walls of a closet or to the inner side of the door thereof, and which is adapted to support the different kinds of hangers lbefore mentioned in the same manner in which they are supported in a wardrobe trunk so that trunk hangers with garments draped thereon may be transferred from the trunk to the closet fixture without disarranging the garments.
A further object of the inventionis to pro fide a garment hanger fixture having portions which may be permanently fastened to asupport, and which portionsare adapted to serve as ordinary garment hanger hooks and to also hold garment hanger tracks upon which a plurality of garment hangers may bek supported.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger fixture in which the removable track portions may be easily releasably attached and locked to the permanently fastened bracket portion in a simple manner.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger fixture which is of reversible type so that the xtures may be used in pairs without requiring right and left handed parts.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger fixture in which parts thereof may be easily adjusted to accommodate garment hangers of varying lengths.
A further object ofthe invention is to provide a garment hanger fixture which is of simple construction, is strong and durable and is well adapted for the purpose de scribed.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the improved garment hanger fixture and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof. v
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
Figure 1 is atop view of a pair of the improved fixtures positioned `to support the modern type of wardrobe hangers, and showing some of the said hangers mounted thereon.;
Fig. 2 is a transversesectional view there-Y of taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and i Fig. 4. is a vertical sectional view taken on line 4?-4 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the 'drawing the numeral 8 indicates a support, 9 the improved garment hanger fixture mounted thereon and 10 modern garment hangers supported thereon. The fixture comprises bracket members 11 and track members 12 which are removably attached to the said brackets and upon which the garment hangers are supported.
Each bracket member 11 is stamped from heavy sheet or plate metal and consists of a'body portion 13 having a depending loop portion k14e, an upper hook portion 15 and side ear portions 16. The ear portions 16 are perforated to receive screws 17 for attaching the member permanently to a support, and the upper hook portion 15 serves as a clothes hook adapted to support garments in the ordinary' manner. The depending portion 14 is bent upwardly and over upon the body portion to form an elongated the bracket.
eyed or slotted part 19 extending transversely, horizontally, of the member and parallel with respect to the face thereof. Rivets 20 passing through the bent over portion and body part of the brackets serve to securely bind the upper part ol the eyed portion to the body part oi the member to form a rigid structure.
Each track member 1F. consists of tivo riveted together elongated pieces of flat metal Q1 and having their inner end portions bent at right angles to form inner attaching portions and 94, the inner portion 23 of which is adapted to extend through and snugly lit into the elongated eye 19 oit the bracket member 11.
The right angular attaching portion is spaced from the :mgularportion a sufficient distance to permit the outer part 19 of the eyed portion 19 oit the bracket to just pass betiveen the tivo angular portions Q3 and 2.1: and form a close engagement therewith and thus firmly bind the track to the bracket.
A spring locking member riveted tothe angular portion 2-1: projects outwardly therefrom longitudinally beyond the end of said angular portion i211 and is provided with a bolt member which extends transversely across the end of said angular portion into locking engagement with the side edge of 'the outer part 19 ot the eyed portion 19 and thus securely lock the track to The end Q6 oli the bolt member 2G is beveled ol'll as indicated and the end portion 251 or' the angular portion is also beveled and co-acts with kthe beveledr end of the bolt in forming an easy entrance for the outer part 19" ot the elongated eyed portion 19 in attaching the track to the bracket. The treed end 25 of the spring is curved outwardly to form a convenient linger grip 'for rnilocking the track from the bracket.
The outer end of the track is provided with a stop 27 formed by bending the longer outer end portion of the part '21 of the track at right angles over the outer end of the part 22 a sulicient distance to serve as a stop to prevent. garment hanger supported thereon from accidentally slipping olif the end of the tracks. A
Thilo only one ot they fixtures has been described in detail it is to be understood that the fixture may be used singly tor ordinary garment hangers having central hooks or used in pairs for garment hangers of the modern type which are provided with track engaging hooks on their opposite ends asindicated in Fig. 1. In this gure of the drawing the inner angular ends of the tracks are shown as extending toward each other and the track portions projecting` from the opposite outer side edges of the brackets. This positioning of the parts `provides for tance between the two tracks Will be further shortened and the tracks Will accommodate still shorter garment hangers.
The invention contemplates the use of the brackets generally in hotels and private dwelling houses so that persons traveling from place to place may use the brackets as ordinary clothes hooks or may support garment hangers ou tracks attached to the brackets. The brackets are also adapted to receive and hold removable garment hanger tracks (not shown) used in many of the mode-rn trunks so that the said tracks may be easily transferred and used.
F rom the toregoii j: descriptioirit vvill be seen that the garment hanger fixture is Well adapted tor universal use in that it will support garment hangers ot various kinds and .vill also serve every purpose to which the, ordinary clothes hook is adapted.
