Stateof New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Snap- Hooks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the This invention relates to improvements in hooks of that generaltype disclosed in my applications for Letters Patent, executed of even date herewith and specially desighated case A and case B, respectively.

The present improvements include an-improved type of bar associated with the eye of the hook shank for relatively permanently closing said eye to prevent the escape of an inserted link, ring, or equivalent device to which it is desired that the hook be fastened.

The characteristics of the device reside in the special interfitting of the closure bar with the main eye portion, and also with the shank portion, to reinforce the bar against such strains as might tend to impair or dislodge the same, and that might be exerted against the bar from any direction. The details in the construction and arrangement of the several parts of the preferred embodiment of the present improvements will be apparent from the specific description hereinafter contained when read inconnection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and wherein said embodiment is illustrated.

Referring more specifically to the drawings, wherein like reference letters refer to the same parts in the several views, A represents the shank provided with the usual snap hook B. At the opposite end of the shank, that is the end to constitute the attaching eye, I cast with the shank a hooklike eye member 0, the end of which terminates in line withone side of the shank to dispose the eye D in a position approximately centrally of-the longitudinal axis of the shank.

In li e with t e terminal portion 5 t e hook-like member and radially of the shank the same is formed with an outwardly projecting flange E of considerable length to provide adjoining bearing shoulders or walls F at the opposite sides of the flange. The flange is perforated as at G for a purpose as will later appear.

To close the space between the .end of the hook-like portion of the eye and the end of the shank following the insertion of the ring, chain link, or its equivalent, adapted to carry the hook, I utilize a bar H of an approximate size to constitute a substantial continuation of the hook-like member, said bar'at that end which immediately adjoins the end of the hook-like member being formed, at one face of the device with a proj ecting lug J adapted to be received within a pocket K in the corresponding face of the hooklike member to the end that the side edges of the lug'will engage the side walls of the pocket and tend to prevent movement of the closure bar in both lateral directions toward and from the eye D.

The other end of the bar from that just discussed is grooved as at L to receive and inclose the flange on the shank to which I have previously alluded, the inner elongated edges of the walls of the slotted portion of the bar at opposite sides of said flange constituting abutting surfaces M to contact with the corresponding surfaces or shoulders on the shank. The walls of the slotted portion of the bar are also pierced to present alined apertures N designed to register with the aperture in the flange of the shank for the reception of a locking pin 0 headed at one end as shown and provided with a cotter pin or equivalent device P at its protruding end to effectually secure the parts together.
