Description

enoRGn c. JENSEN, oroAiKLAivu'qs,l CALIronN-'Iag `ingvisaspecification. Y Aeertain type-of lever adapted for shift.-
ing the gear elements of a motor driven veu hicleehascoperat-ing therewith a segmental portiongcapable of movement ltherewith on the operation of thee-lever; said segmental 4portionvbeing;retained in its adjusted position by a suitable mechanism, and the present invention has for itsl principal object to provide a locking construction for this type of lever for locking the retaining member in .coperative relation with the segmental porv vtion to prevent 'movement of the lever.
With the above mentioned and other objects in view,' the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood suo that various changesin the form, proportion, size and minor details of constructlonwithin the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departing from the spiritv or vsacrificing` any of the advantages of the invention.
To more fully comprehend thel invention reference is directed to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a, transverse sectional View of the preferred embodiment of my. invention. Fig.2 is a view in side elevation, partly in section, of the construction illustrated in Fig. 1.
I 'i Referring more particularly to the several Views of thedrawings, wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts, 1 indicatesal suitable fulcrum mem-` ber preferably in the form of a shaft and axially rotatable on which is a sleeve 2 also capable' of longitudinal movement on said shaft 1. `Y
Extending at right angles from the sleeve 2 is a lever 3, .and also extending at right angles to said sleeve 2. at a. point offsetl from the lever 3 and disposed at an angle of approximately 45 degrees from the lever. is an arm 4 vhaving a curved segmental head or face 5 formed with ports, bores-or openings LEVER-LOCKING CONSTRUCTIO.
Application fue@ riruar'y i3, "1918. .semina massa( Specification of ll'etter's Patent. 6,1918.
relativel to the head f'llfositioned adjacent the, head 5 and carried byfastationary support 7 is a fixedlock"casing transversely through which is: formedfa yboref9; Longitudinally movable. withinfsaid bore9isi-a locking bolt 10 adapted forlongitudinal movement by any lsuitable;,mechanism`v not shown, said bolt at its-en di,l1 `adapted for projecting into the opening6=. fregistering therewith dependent upon the vmovement* of the'lever-either axially-or longitudinallyv of its fulcrum 1. Thegreceptionvof the. end 1l` of the bol-t 10`withinthe-registering ports 6 retains the lever vin* its adjusted position,
said bolt licapable ofrbeingreadil-y -removed by the bolt operating mechanism,`v
not shown. y
The bolt is provided on its upper surface with a transverse groove or cutout 12 within whlch is adapted to be receivedthe lower end of a longitudinally movable locking bolt retaining latch 13 positioned within a bore 14 arranged at right angles to the bore 9 and communicating at its lower1 end therewith.` In the upperend of the fixed lock casing 8 is positioned any suitable form of key controlled lockmechanism 15 with `which` said locking bolt retaining latch 13 coperates and on the operationl of the controlling key 16 thereof said latch 13 is adapted for movement into orout of locking ens gagement in the cutout 12 of the bolt 10. i
It will beapparent that on the reception of the latch 13 .in the cutout 12 that the bolt 10 is locked from removal from its registering bore 6 and thus prevents axial rotation or longitudinal movement of the lever on its fulcrum.
' Having thus described my invention, what u I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is 1. In combination with a lever fulcr'umed for selective and operative movement in difya fixed casing and over the end of which said segment 'is adapted for movement in different planes on the selective and opera-` tive movements of the lever and capable of locked engagement with said segment for '110 locking the lever from movement, and lock controlled mechanism for engaging and locking said locking bolt in engagement With said segment. v
2. In combination with a lever fulcrumed for selective and operative movement in different planes at rlghtangles to each other,
' a ported segment movable with said lever,
3. In combination with .a lever, a tubular.
sleeve associated therewith,- a shaft passing through said sleeve and providing a fulcrum for said lever and relativelyvv to which the same is capable of axial and longitudinal movement, a ported segment extending out- 'wardly from the sleeve and movable therewith, said segment provided with a curved face formed with a plurality of apertures', a
fixed lock easing disposed adjacent to said segment and over which said segment 1s .capable of move-ment on the operation of saidlever, a longitudinally movable lockingl bolt carried by said fixed casing for recep- 30 :tion at one end within said apertures on the registering of the sametherewith due to` the mpvement of the lever, and a key controlled look mechanism carried within said lock casing for engaging and locking said boltv portion and ldisposed in a plane parallely with saidlever and arranged at an angle of approximately 45 degrees thereto, said segment provided with a. orted head, a fixed lock casingdisposeda jacent to g andrelatively to which said segment Ahead said head"l has coperative movement on the movement l of said lever, a locking bolt carried by said xed casingand adapted for reception with said ports, and lock mechanism for retaing said bolt in 'locked posltion and from removal from the port wit-hin which it is received. v
ln testimony whereof I have signed'my name to this specification in the presence of two si'lbscribing witnesses.
