To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN EDMuNosoN, a citizen of the United States, residingat Tientsin, in. the Republic of China, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric-Light Attachments for Pens or Pencils, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to electric light attachments for writing pens or pencils and the principal object thereof lies in the provision. of a reflector mounted adjacent the pen or pencil point and carrying electric bulbs, the rays of whibh being thrown upon the writing paper so that a person may see.

This sleeve 6 is formed with a hollow boss 8 in which is mounted a reciprocable push-button 9. Mounted upon the interior of the sleeve 6 and below the hollow boss 8 are resilient contacts 10 and 11.

The numeral 12 designates a reflector which is constructed from any suitable ma terialand is substantially bowl or concavoconvex in cross section. This reflector can ries a collar or annulus 13 that is detachably received on the sleeve 6. This reflector is also formedwith an inwardly directed-flange or shoulder 14 that abuts the .lower end of the sleeve 6. What T shall term as the upper edge of the reflector is formed with a forwardly extending extension 15 and is substantially spoon shaped. The function of this extension 15 is to direct the illuminat-' ing rays upon the paper rearwardly of and adjacent-the point'o'f the penor pencil.

Mounted in the reflector 12 in any suitable" manner and at perferably diametrically opposite points of the pencil are electric bulbs 16. Suitable feed wires are incircuit with the contacts 8 and 10 and the bulbs 16. These conductors are incased in the usual sheathing of non-conducting material, designated by the numeral 17.

This sheathing 17 extends through an e e 18 mounted on the sleeve 6 and ongitudinally of the pencil 5 and then through a second eye 19. The conductors are electrically connected with a battery 21 which is adapted to be carried around in the pockets of the operator or mounted in any other convenient place.

From the above disclosure it will be seen that I have provided a simple, economical, illuminating attachment for pens or pencils which may be used advantageously in dark or poorly lighted places and which is efiicient and durable in use. p 7

It will be manifest that in using a pen or pencil having my improved attachment thereon the writers thumb and fingers are engaged about the sleeve 6 in the manner that an ordinary pen or pencil is manipulated, with the forefingerpressing inwardly upon the push-button 9 which will cause the current to flow from the battery 21 and illuminate the bulbs 16.

This disclosure is merely illustrative and 7 it is to be understood that it is within the realm of my invention to modify and arrange the parts otherwise than herein illustrated and set forth and that I am only limited by the claims herewith appended:

What is claimed is: l

l. The combination with a pen or pencil, a sleeve longitudinally adjustable thereon, an electrical switch mounted on the sleeve, a reflector formed with a collar accommodated on the sleeve and further provided 2. The combination with a pencil or like marking implement, of a sleeve encircling the same, a reflector surrounding and removably engaged with one end of said sleeve, electric bulbs carried by said reflector, and a switch carried by said sleeve and electrically connected with said bulbs.

3. The combination with a pencil or the .like, of an encircling sleeve mounted for longitudinal adjustment thereon a concave reflectorprovided with a collar embracing said sleeve, an inwardly directed flange carried by the reflector and engaging an end of the sleeve, bulbs carried by said reflector, and a switch carried by said sleeve and electrically connected by said bulbs.
